Game Notes
PHILADELPHIA - Nationally-ranked for the first time since 2001, Temple returns from Christmas break to host Bowling Green on Monday, December 28 (7:00 pm.) at McGonigle Hall in "Turn Back The Clock" Night. It marks the first regular season game for the Owls (9-2) in their old home since opening the Liacouras Center in 1997. Temple will wear retro uniforms from the 1980s and fans can purchase tickets to the game for $9.00. There will also be discounted concession prices throughout the game.
Picked to finish tied for fifth in the preseason Atlantic 10 Conference coaches/media poll, the #21/25 Owls, under the direction of four-year head coach Fran Dunphy, have put together their run to the rankings with a defense that ranks third in the nation in scoring (55.1 ppg.) and fourth in three-point percentage (.239).
Led by senior co-captains Ryan Brooks and Luis Guzman, the Owls have controlled the tempo of the game on offense, and rank fourth in the nation in fewest turnovers per game (10.2 ppg.). Brooks, the reigning Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week, leads a balanced Cherry and White squad in scoring with a 15.2 average. Junior forward Lavoy Allen, a preseason first team All-Atlantic 10 selection, averages a double-double (11.5 ppg./10.4 rpg.) while sophomore guard Juan Fernandez, the reigning Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week, averages 13.5 points and 3.8 assists per game.
Bowling Green, under the direction of third-year head coach Louis Orr, are off to a 5-4 start. Senior center Otis Polk (10.3 ppg./7.6 rpg.) leads a balanced offensive attack that features two other double figure scorers in sophomore forward Scott Thomas (10.2 ppg.) and sophomore guard Dee Brown (10.0 ppg.). The Falcons have won four of their last five games, including a 67-46 win at Fordham.
