Field Hockey Falls To Rider, 4-1
9.1.09 | Field Hockey
PHILADELPHIA - The visiting Rider Broncos (2-0) made the most of their opportunities and came out with a 4-1 win against the Temple field hockey (1-2) team on Tuesday afternoon.
Due to ongoing construction at Geasey Field, the Owls once again traveled across town to Drexel's Buckley Field for their second home game of the season. Unfortunately for the Owls, the outcome was not the same as their first contest on Drexel's campus.
The Broncos struck early at the 4:36 mark of the first half on a goal by sophomore Megan Pisani to put Temple in an early hole. Five minutes later, Jackie Adams knocked in a rebound to put the Broncos up 2-0 less than ten minutes in.
After Rider's second goal, the Owls settled in and began to generate more offensive pressure which would lead to six first half shots. The Owls continued pressuring throughout the rest of the game and finished tied in shots (14-14) and with two more penalty corners (7-5).
In the 58th minute, the Owls saw their offensive pressure pay off with a goal from freshman Taylor Musser, the first of her career. Taryn Nichols assisted on the play when she sent a crisp pass from the endline to just inside the top right of the circle where Musser was able to rip a shot into the back of the cage. Unfortunately, it was not enough for the Owls to overcome their early deficit.
The Cherry and White continue their season on Friday at 6:00 p.m. when they hit the road and head to College Park, Md., to face Big Ten member and 19th ranked Michigan at a neutral site.Box Score
