Owls unable to find the back of the goal in 1-0 loss
Box Score
PHILADELPHIA – The Temple Field Hockey team was finally able to play their home opener at newly renovated Geasey Field on Sunday, but unfortunately could not find the back of the goal as they suffered a 1-0 loss to Albany.
After playing their first three home games of the season at Buckley Field on the campus of Drexel University, the Owls returned to North Broad Street for their highly anticipated contest on the beautiful new turf.
Both teams came out ready to play in the opening minutes of the first half. The Owls registered two quick shots but failed to capitalize on either.
It was the Great Danes who then went on the offensive for a majority of the remainder of the first half that saw them come up with six shots, five on goal, to go along with five penalty corners.
But the Owls defense unit would stand strong and the teams would close out the first half without either being able to find the back of the cage.
Less than five minutes into the second half, the Great Danes were finally able to solve the Owls' defense. Suzy Clephane was able to recover the ball after a broken up penalty corner and sent a pass to Christina Patrick who sent the ball into the back of the cage to give Albany a 1-0 lead that they would not relinquish.
Junior goalkeeper Sarah Dalrymple had a fabulous game in goal for the Owls and finished the day with eight saves, one away from her career high. Dalrymple, along with the rest of the defense, was able to keep the Cherry and White in the game despite being outshot 13-8 and having 11 fewer penalty corners, 12-1.
The Owls have a few days off before they travel across town to face city rival Drexel for a mid-week contest on Wednesday, Sept. 23. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
