Owls drop third in a row and fall to 3-6 on the season
Box Score
PHILADELPHIA - Three different players scored to lead the Dragons of Drexel University (7-1) to a 3-0 win over the visiting Temple field hockey team (3-6). The Dragons, who are currently ranked 11th in the nation, held on for their 13th consecutive victory at Buckley Field.
The Owls found themselves in a early hole as Christina Mastropaolo took a loose ball from a penalty corner and fired a shot that was able to find the back of the goal just a little over three minutes into the contest. Sofia Sanguinetti took advantage of a penalty stroke that was awarded to the Dragons in the first half to put the score at 2-0 in favor of the home squad. The score would remain 2-0 until Susan Ciufo provided the final margin when she slipped a rebound past Temple goalkeeper Sarah Dalrymple with under seven minutes remaining in the contest.
Dalrymple would once again have a busy day in goal as she tied her career high with nine saves.
Despite firing five more shots in the second half (7-2) and six more penalty corners (8-2), the Owls were once again unable to find the back of the cage. Senior Kristen Wanner led the Owls with six shots, five of which were on goal.
The Cherry and White will head to the central part of the state for their next two contests as they take on Lock Haven Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and Bucknell on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
