Field Hockey Falls 2-1 at La Salle Despite Second-Half Rally

Owls out-shoot Explorers 12-2 in the second half but manage only one goal

PHILADELPHIA – Despite out-shooting its opponent 12-2 in the second half, the Temple field hockey team came up short at its Atlantic 10 and city rival La Salle, falling 2-1 to the Explorers on Friday afternoon.
La Salle improves to 6-8 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while Temple now stands at 6-9 for the season and is also 1-1 in A-10 play.
La Salle opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Lindsay Fry scored on a pass from Rachel Deaner after a penalty corner by the Explorers.
The 1-0 advantage held for La Salle until the final few seconds of the first half when Mariel Papa scored after a shot and rebounded save by Temple goalkeeper Sarah Dalrymple.
After going into the break with a 2-0 deficit, the Owls came out with intensity and earned a penalty shot less than four minutes into the second half. Bridget Settles took the shot and scored to put Temple on the board.
The Owls continued to dominate offensively for the rest of the contest, but despite the shot margin and an 8-0 advantage in penalty corners, nothing made it into the back of the net. La Salle goalkeeper Emma Ruth tallied nine saves in the game.
Temple will be back in action on Sunday, Oct. 17 as the Owls play host to West Chester at 12:00 p.m. at Geasey Field.
