Field Hockey Set to Host Saint Joseph's and Penn This Weekend

Owls take on Hawks at 3:00 p.m. Friday; Quakers at 1:00 p.m. Sunday
PHILADELPHIA - The Temple field hockey team returns to action Friday, Oct. 7 at 3:00 p.m. opening Atlantic 10 play against the Saint Joseph's Hawks. Temple, 4-8 overall, faces Penn (1-8) Sunday in the last of three straight home games.
In their last time out on Oct. 3, Temple suffered a 2-1 loss to Bryant. The Owls outshot Bryant 21-7, but couldn't find the back of the net. The scoring was complete within the first 15 minutes of play, as Temple's Molly Doyle scored off her own rebounded shot and save at the 14:12 mark to pull the Owls within one.
All-time, the Owls are 21-10 against the Hawks with their last regular season win coming at home in 2009 by a score of 3-0.
The Owls' leading scorer is Bridget Settles with 20 points in 12 games. Settles has racked up nine goals and two assists this season. Taryn Nichols and Molly Dolye are tied for second on the team with three goals each.
Sarah Dalrymple has been the Owls' lone goalkeeper this season making 59 saves. Her goals against average is 2.20 and she has recorded three shutouts on the year.
Coming into Friday's matchup with the Owls, the Saint Joseph's field hockey team holds a 3-7 record. The Hawks fell to Fairfield on Oct. 3 by a score of 4-1.
Nicole McCreight leads the Hawks in scoring as she has tallied 20 points in 10 games. McCreight has nine goals and two assists on the season. Hannah Rodgers is second on the team in scoring with 10 points. Goalkeeper Kelly Swanick has started all 10 games this season. Swannick has recorded 90 saves on the season and has a goals against average of 3.50 .
Michelle Finegan is in her 12th season as head coach of the Hawks. A two-time Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year, Finegan has notched more wins than any coach in program history. Finegan returned to Saint Joseph's in 2003 after spending seven seasons as the head coach at Lehigh University. She has led the Hawks to the Atlantic 10 Tournament in each season since her return, including appearances in the championship game in 2006 and 2007.

Kirstin Snyder, Sunny Stirewalt, and Kyle deSandes-Moyer lead Penn in scoring with four points each on the season. Sarah Hasson and Laurel McGarvie have three points each. Kieran Sweeney has seen the most action in goal for the Quakers. Sweeney has recorded 53 saves on the season and has a goals against average of 4.30.
Colleen Quinn Fink is in her first season as head coach of the Quakers. Fink came to Penn from Haverford College, where she spent the last four seasons as the head coach. During her tenure, the Fords improved each year, culminating in last year's run when they made their first-ever playoff appearance and gained their first playoff win in the Centennial Conference.
