Game Notes
PHILADELPHIA - The #22/22 Temple Owls will not have any time to celebrate their season-opening 62-56 win over Seton Hall Friday night as they return to the floor less than 48 hours later with a 3:00 p.m. tip against Toledo at the Liacouras Center Sunday. The game will be broadcast on 1340 AM WHAT and video-streamed on OwlAccess.
Junior Ramone Moore, who moves into the starting lineup after earning 2010 Atlantic 10 Sixth Man of the Year honors, led the Owls with 14 points in the team's win over the Pirates. Classmate Juan Fernandez, a preseason second team all-A10 pick, added 12 points, a career-high-tying seven rebounds and five assists while sophomore forward Rahlir Jefferson came off the bench to contribute his first double-double (10 pts., 10 rebs.).
Junior forward Scootie Randall, making his first career start, set career highs in minutes (32) and rebounds (9). Fellow junior Micheal Eric added eight points, six rebounds and a career-high five blocks. The Owls were able to subdue the Pirates even with their first team all-conference performer, 6-9 senior Lavoy Allen, limited to nine points and nine rebounds.
Toledo dropped its opener for new head coach Tod Kowalczyk, 84-45 at #13 Illinois on Nov. 10. Freshman center Delino Dear and sophomore guard Malcolm Griffin led UT's attack with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Freshman guard Zack Leahy tallied eight points in a team-high 32 minutes, while redshirt freshman forward Hayden Humes also notched eight points.
UT played only five scholarship players in the contest as senior forward Anthony Wright (arch) and freshman guard J.T. Thomas (foot) sat out the game due to injury. Wright could possibly see action against the Owls, while Thomas is hoping to return for UT's home opener vs. UIC on Friday, Nov. 19.
Temple leads the series 2-0 with the last meeting coming in 1986, a 75-68 win at Toledo.
