Owls take on the No. 16 Dragons at 3:30 p.m. at Geasey Field
PHILADELPHIA - The Temple field hockey team returns to action Wednesday afternoon to take on No. 16 Drexel at 3:30 p.m. The game is the fourth in a five-game homestand for the Cherry and White.
In its last time out, Temple's offense had a difficult time establishing any rhythm against No. 15 Penn State, and the Owls lost 4-0. Temple found itself on the defensive for much of the game, as the nationally-ranked Nittany Lions' offense proved to be too much to handle.
All-time, the Owls are 16-6-1 against the Dragons with their last regular season win coming at Drexel in 2007 by a score of 2-1 in double overtime.
The Owls' leading scorer is Bridget Settles with 14 points in seven games. Settles' six goals lead the team while Katie Briglia, Taryn Nichols, Molly Doyle and Lauren Hunt all are tied for second on the team with two goals each.
Sarah Dalrymple has been the Owls' lone goalkeeper this season making 25 saves. Her goals against average is 1.76 and she has recorded three shutouts on the year.
Coming into Wednesday's matchup with the Owls, the No. 16 Drexel field hockey team holds a 3-3 record. The Dragons fell to UConn Sunday afternoon by a score of 4-0.
Seniors Susan Ciufo and Kim Tunell are tied for the team lead in scoring as they have tallied seven points each through six games. Junior Elizabeth Koch is second on the team with six points. Sophomore Jenna Phillips has been the only Drexel goalkeeper this season. Phillips has two shutouts on the season and a goals against average of 1.80.
Head coach Denise Zelenak completed the rebuilding she began 16 years ago when she took over a team that went winless in the 1994 season and led her team to the NCAA Tournament in 2009. Zelenak was selected as the Colonial Athletic Association Coach of the Year and also picked up her second career Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year honor after leading Drexel to a 19-4 mark and a No. 10 ranking in the final NFHCA poll last season.
