PHILADELPHIA - Caryn Lambright and Bridget Settles teamed up for the game-winning goal in the 64th minute and the Temple field hockey team earned a 2-1 win against visiting Richmond on Friday afternoon. The Owls improve to 2-0 in the Atlantic 10 with the victory against a Richmond team that is receiving votes in the national poll.

Temple is 5-10 overall while Richmond now stands at 8-6 for the season and 1-1 in the conference. Both teams began the game under less-than-ideal conditions as a passing storm brought heavy rains during the teams' warm-up.

Shots on goal were tough to come by for both teams, but Temple finished with an 8-5 edge despite Richmond getting five penalty corner opportunities to the Owls' one.

Richmond was leading Temple in shots, 2-0, before the Owls' first shot of the game resulted in a goal. Katie Briglia tipped in a long pass from outside the circle by Kaylee Keener in the 14th minute of the game, and the 1-0 Temple lead would stand until the 46th minute.

Temple goalkeeper Lizzy Millen laid out for a save on one of Richmond's best opportunities to score; a penalty corner shot in the 18th minute.

Ten minutes into the second half, Richmond's Rebecca Barry took a pass from Liesl Schnuck right after a corner, and put it in the net from the right side of the circle to tie the game at 1-1.

As the clouds moved back in and the regulation clock wound down, Lambright and Settles found themselves in good position with no defenders in front of Richmond's goal other than goalkeeper Anna Zarkoski. Settles drove the ball in from well outside the circle and Lambright was able to get her stick on it and direct the ball past Zarkoski for the game-winner.

Temple will be back in action at home on Sunday, facing La Salle for "Alumni Day" at 1:00 p.m.
