PHILADELPHIA - The Atlantic 10 season has arrived for Temple field hockey, as the team travels across town to Saint Joseph's on Friday, Oct. 7 for a 4:00 p.m. contest. The Owls will return home a day later for a non-conference game against Wake Forest at 1:00 p.m. Seventh-year head coach Amanda Janney is a 1999 graduate of Wake Forest and is facing her alma mater for the first time.
Saint Joseph's will be officially dedicating its new field, the Ellen Ryan Field, prior to the conference opener for both teams on Friday afternoon. The Hawks will serve as hosts for this year's A-10 Championship, set for Nov. 4-5. Saint Joseph's is 3-6 so far this season and is coming off a decisive, 7-1 win against Siena.
Wake Forest has struggled against a tough schedule this year, and is 2-8 overall but still receiving votes in the national poll. The Demon Deacons are 0-3 in ACC play and coming off a tough, 1-0 loss to No. 2 North Carolina. Seven of Wake Forest's opponents have been ranked, and the team got a 3-2 win against No. 16 Louisville.
Temple is ready to have a clean slate for conference play after starting at 3-9 so far. The Owls have suffered five consecutive losses, with three of those coming by just a goal. Senior Bridget Settles is the team's leader this season with 10 goals, and she currently ranks in the top 40 in career goals (35) among all active players in NCAA Division I.
