Owls look for 20th win in key A-10 showdown

PHILADELPHIA - The #23/25 Temple Owls will have 20-20 vision when it takes the floor Thursday night (7:00 p.m./CBS College Sports/1340 AM WHAT) in a key Atlantic 10 Conference contest against the Richmond Spiders. The Owls (19-5), in search of their fourth straight 20-win season and 20th straight home victory, are tied with the Spiders (20-6) for second place in the A-10 standings with identical 9-2 records.
Temple, under the direction of fifth-year head coach Fran Dunphy, has won six straight games, including a 75-63 win at Dayton Saturday. The Owls played that game without the services of Lavoy Allen (10.7 ppg.), the team's leading rebounder (7.0 rpg,), as the senior forward was sidelined with a sprained left ankle. Allen, who's status is day-to-day, was replaced in the starting lineup by sophomore forward Rahlir Jefferson (5.4 ppg., 5.0 rpg.), who made his first collegiate start.
Junior guard Ramone Moore, the reigning Big 5 Player of the Week, leads the Owls in scoring (15.0 ppg.) while ranking second in assists (77). Junior forward Scootie Randall, the hottest player in the league (18. ppg. over the last 7 games), also averages double figures (11.6 ppg.). Junior guard Juan Fernandez (9.7 ppg,), who leads the team in assists (4.0 apg.), and junior forward Micheal Eric (7.1 ppg., 5.9 rpg,) round out the starting five.
Sophomore Khalif Wyatt, a leading candidate for A-10 Sixth Man of the Year, gives the Owls a spark off the bench with his 9.3 points per game and team-leading 43.5 percent from three-point range.
Richmond, under the direction of sixth-year coach Chris Mooney, is a formidable challenge to Temple's home court win streak. The Spiders have won eight straight road games, and four straight games overall. Senior forward Justin Harper, the current A-10 Player of the Week, leads Richmond and ranks fourth in the conference in scoring with an 18.0 average. Senior guard Kevin Anderson, the 2010 A-10 Player of the Year, is one of the top playmakers in the league and ranks eighth in scoring (15.8 ppg.). Redshirt senior Dan Geriot, a local product out of Springfield High, also averages double figures (10.2 ppg.).
