PHILADELPHIA - Fresh off of a dominating home win over Richmond, #23/25 Temple returns to the Liacouras Center for an Atlantic 10/Big 5 game against Saint Joseph's on Sunday (4:00 p.m./CSN/1340 AM WHAT). The Owl Club Auction will take place around the game and Temple's three new Hall of Famers, Rick Brunson, Eddie Jones and Aaron McKie, will be introduced at halftime.
Temple, under the direction of sixth-year head coach Fran Dunphy, secured its 20th consecutive home win on Thursday, also marking the team's fourth straight 20-win season by improving to 20-5 overall, 10-2 in A-10 play. The Owls' 73-53 win over the Spiders was fueled by junior guards Ramone Moore (24 points)?and Juan Fernandez (20 points).Moore, the reigning Big 5 Player of the Week, leads the Owls in scoring (15.4 ppg.) while ranking second in assists (80).
Junior forward Scootie Randall, one of the hottest players in the league (17.8 ppg.- last 8 games), averages double figures (11.6 ppg.) along with Fernandez (10.1 ppg,), who leads the team in assists (3.9 apg.). Senior forward Lavoy Allen (10.5 ppg.), returning to the starting lineup after missing the Dayton game, tops the Owls in rebounding (7.0 rpg.) and moved into second place all-time in Temple history with seven against Richmond.
Sophomore forward Rahlir Jefferson (5.4 ppg, 5.1 rpg.) made his second career start against Richmond, this time in place of the injured Micheal Eric, playing a career-high 39 minutes and pulling down seven rebounds. Sophomore guard Khalif Wyatt, a candidate for A-10 Sixth Man of the Year, gives the Owls a spark off the bench with his 9.1 points per game and team-leading 43.5 percent from three-point range.
The Hawks (7-18, 2-9 A-10), under the direction of 16th-year head coach Phil Martelli, were on a two game conference winning streak before falling to Xavier in their last outing. Sophomore guard Carl Jones (17.4 ppg.) paces Saint Joseph's in scoring while freshman guard Langston Galloway ranks first on the team in rebounding (5.7 rpg.) and second in scoring (12.0 ppg.).
Temple has won the last eight meetings, including a 72-54 win at the Palestra this year, and leads the all-time series with a record of 85-66 over the Hawks.
