Owls welcome defending national champ Maryland along with Bucknell and Boston University
PHILADELPHIA - Temple field hockey welcomes defending national champion Maryland along with Bucknell and Boston University to Geasey Field this weekend for the 2011 Conference Cup. Head coach Amanda Janney and her team captains talked about how preseason has gone so far and their excitement for opening weekend HERE.
There will be a price of admission to this weekend's games, and all fans should come through the spectator entrance at 15th and Norris Streets. A one-day pass will cost $4.00 and fans can purchase a pass for both days for $6.00. There will be no cost for children 12 and under.
The Owls have back-to-back home tournaments to start the season. Temple's first game is Friday, Aug. 26 against Bucknell at noon. Maryland will face Boston University in the second game of the day at 2:30 p.m. On Sunday, Aug. 28, Temple will face the powerhouse Terrapins at 3:30 p.m. in the final game of the weekend.
NCAA and ACC champion Maryland went 23-1 in 2010, losing only to #4 Princeton before closing out the season with 15 straight wins. The Terrapins return 17 of 23 players from that squad including seven of 11 starters.
Bucknell finished at 7-12 in 2010 with a 3-2 record in the Patriot League. The Owls defeated the Bison 4-2 in the first game for both teams last year.
The fourth team in this weekend's tournament, Boston University, has won four of the last six America East titles and was picked to win again in 2011. The Terriers finished the 2010 season with a record of 10-8.
