Baseball Closes Out Virginia Road Trip; Handled By George Mason, 19-4

FAIRFAX, Va.— Senior Taylor Juran hit for the 11th straight game to put Temple ahead first, but George Mason responded by letting the Owls know that they overstayed their welcome in the state of Virginia on the final day of the five-game road trip, dropping the Owls, 19-4.
For the third straight game, Temple scored in the first inning.
Junior Jordan Queja led off the game with a single before redshirt senior Steve Nikorak reached base fir the 11th consecutive game with his RBI-single up the middle, scoring Queja to put the Owls up 1-0.
George Mason answered right back, putting its first two batters on base. Dan Schaffuman tied the game on his single that scored Chris Cook, who led off the inning with a walk. Without an out, Zack Helgeson walked to jam the bases before a pitch got away from freshman catcher Nick Lustrino, causing Brig Tison to waltz home from 90 feet away to go up on top 2-1.
From there, the bleeding would not stop, as the Patriots would score eight runs in the inning.
The Owls tacked on two runs in the third inning to slim the margin to seven runs, at 10-3, but the Patriots continued to find ways to pour it on.
GMU went on to barrage the Owls with nine more runs over the course of the game, including another eight-spot in its half of the third inning.
Temple concludes its five-game road trip 1-4 and now returns home to host its first stretch of games at Skip Wilson Field beginning on Friday when Central Connecticut rolls for a 1:00 p.m. affair. The Owls (3-8) will host seven of their next eight games on their home field up in Ambler.
