WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - With under three minutes to go in the game, Alyssa Delp scored the game-winner to give Temple field hockey a 3-2 win at Monmouth (0-5) on Wednesday afternoon. It was the second road win in as many games for the Owls (2-2), who got a goal from each of three forwards in the contest along with two assists from Katie Briglia.

Temple wasted no time getting on the board as Briglia fed Amber Youtz a perfect pass in the circle for a 1-0 lead less than three minutes into play. Both teams played aggressively in a very back-and-forth contest, and the Hawks tied the game near the 12-minute mark of the first half with a goal by Amanda Schoenfeld.

Goalkeeper Lizzy Millen made five first-half saves to help preserve the tie, while at the other end the Owls came up with 14 first-half shots. Temple's aggressiveness led to six penalty corners in the first half compared to three for Monmouth, and it paid off when Lauren Hunt redirected a pass from Briglia on a corner with less than a minute to go in the half.

Close to 10 minutes into the second half, the Hawks tied the game yet again, and despite an intense battle between the teams, the game eventually looked as though it could head to overtime.

Two and a half minutes remained in regulation when Youtz ran hard with the ball toward the baseline and crossed to Delp who got a touch on it toward goal and then dove to make sure it ended up in the back of the cage.

There was a tense moment for the Owls in the final seconds as Monmouth was awarded a corner that drove down the remaining time, meaning the result of the corner would be the final play of the game. Temple's defensive line sprang into action on the play and prevented the Hawks from getting off any clean shots, ending the game with an Owl victory.

"It was a pretty intense back and forth game," said Temple head coach Amanda Janney. "We're learning every game how to maintain the lead, and it was good for us to be able to respond to their goals and still play to a high level. I was really pleased that three forwards got a goal today to show that we're really versatile and a lot of people on our team can score. I challenged the team to raise their level of intensity in the second half and they responded.

"We did a great job to create a lot of breakaway situations and counter-attacks, and we didn't execute on all of them but it's a step in the right direction that our backs are creating those plays. It was another good battle in New Jersey, and to get two road wins is huge for this young team."

The Owls will play two games at home this weekend, starting with a 1:00 p.m. contest against Penn State on Saturday, Sept. 8.
