Randall Leads Temple To 71-64 Win Over Richmond

PHILADELPHIA – Senior Scootie Randall carried Temple to a 71-64 victory over the Richmond Spiders on Wednesday night, leading the Owls with 21 points on an eight-for-13 shooting night.
On the night Temple honored one of its all-time greats, Hal Lear, by unveiling a banner with his retired #6 uniform in the Liacouras Center rafters, the Owls squandered a 10-point second half lead near the midway point when the Spiders crawled back to go up by one. Fighting through a back-and-forth battle, Temple held for the last stand .
The Owls took over the driver's seat with 3:07 remaining on senior Khalif Wyatt's three-pointer that put his team up 64-61. Wyatt finished with 19 points, joining sophomore Anthony Lee (12 points) and senior Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson (11 points) in double-figures.
Lee also tied his career high in rebounds with a game-high 13 boards. It marks his fourth double-double of the season.
For Randall, it is consecutive strong offensive outings with his 21 points tying the second highest of the season. Prior to the Butler game, where he tallied 13 points, he had only three double figure scoring games in the previous nine contests.
Randall, who will walk in Commencement Exercises on Thursday, had his best shooting game of the season, making eight-of-13 from the field, and three-of-five from long range.
As a team the Owls connected on 48.1 percent overall, and blistered the nets to start the game by hitting 55.6 percent in the opening stanza.
Despite owning a 38-30 lead at intermission, the Owls had trouble putting away the pesky Spiders. Richmond went on an 11-2 run to cut the deficit to one, 42-41, and then took a lead three minutes later (47-45) on a Kendall Anthony trey (10 pts).
The lead would change hands six times over the final 14 minutes, and it was not until Wyatt's late three broke a 61-all tie and ignited a 7-0 run that the Owls were able to put the game away.
Darien Brothers led all scorers with 22 points for Richmond, which falls to 13-9, 3-4 in league play.
Temple, now 14-6 on the year and 3-3 in Atlantic 10 Conference play, will make their way across the city on Saturday to take on Philadelphia Big 5 rival Saint Joseph's at Hagan Arena for a 6:00 p.m. contest (CBS Sports Network/1210 AM WPHT).
