LAWRENCE, KS -
The Temple men's basketball team faces one of its toughest tests to open the 2013 calendar year when the Owls travel to #6/6 Kansas for a nationally-televised game Sunday against the Jayhawks.  The game marks the first regular season network telecast of a Temple men's baskeball game in a decade as CBS will air the contest nationally.  Tip time is 4:30 pm ET with the game also broadcast by 1210 AM WPHT.

The Owls, under the direction of head coach Fran Dunphy, are 10-2 on the season and coming off a 75-57 win over Bowling Green on New Year's Eve.  With that victory, Temple joins Kansas (2,081 wins) as one six schools to reach the 1800-win milestone.  Kentucky (2,098), North Carolina (2,075), Duke (1,983) and Syracuse (1,855) and the other programs with at least 1800 wins.

Senior guard Khalif Wyatt, who scored a career-high in TU's 83-79 win over then #3/3 Syracuse (12/22), continues to lead the Owls balanced attack.  One of three double-figure scorers, Wyatt averages 15.4 points per game while also topping the Owls in assists (4.4 apg.). Senior guard Scootie Randall (12.8 ppg., 7.4 rpg.) and sophomore forward Anthony Lee (11.4 ppg., 7.1 rpg.) also score in double figures as well as being the top rebounders.

Senior forward Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson (9.1 ppg.) and sophomore guard Will Cummings (5.7 ppg.) round out the Owls' starting five with graduate forward Jake O'Brien (8.2 ppg.) providing instant offense off the bench.  Graduate guard T.J. DiLeo (3.2 ppg.) along with junior forward Dalton Pepper (2.5ppg.) and freshman guard Quenton DeCosey also see time in the rotation.

Perennial national power Kansas (11-1), under the direction of head coach Bill Self, owns a 10-game win streak, including a 74-66 road win over then #7/7 Ohio State (12/22).  The Jayhawks also play in one of the top arenas in the country, Allen Fieldhouse, where they have 29 straight contests overall and 62 straight against non-conference foes.

Redshirt freshman guard Ben McLemore leads four double-figure scorers with a 15.8 average.  At seven-feet senior center Jeff Withey (13.8 ppg., 7.9 rpg.) is a formidable presence in the paint, evidenced by his 59 blocks.  Senior guards Travis Releford (13.3 ppg.) and Elijah Johnson (10.1 ppg.) also score in double figures while senior forward Kevin Young (6.5 ppg., 6.7rpg.) completes the starting unit.

Kansas leads the series between the schools, 7-3, and, as the nation's top-ranked team, defeated the then #18 Owls in the last meeting, 84-52, at the Liacouras Center on Jan. 2, 2010.  Temple is 1-2 at Allen Fieldhouse, the TU win coming on Dec. 1, 1993 when #7 Owls topped the #3 Jayhawks, 73-59.
