PHILADELPHIA - When the 16th-ranked Temple field hockey team hosts Appalachian State on Friday, Oct. 18 at 3:00 p.m., the Owls will honor both their alumni and Play 4 The Cure. As part of Homecoming Weekend, Temple will recognize all field hockey alums in attendance at halftime, and the game will also be dedicated to supporting the fight against breast cancer. The Owls will also play on Sunday, close to home at #20 Drexel at 1:00 p.m. Both games will have live stats and free live streams through the above links.

FIELD HOCKEY MOVES UP TO 16TH IN PENN MONTO/NFHCA DIVISION I COACHES POLL
For a sixth week in a row, Temple field hockey is ranked in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll, as the Owls moved up for a second week in a row and are now ranked #16. With a 10-4 overall record, the Owls are on pace for their best season in a number of years. In the BIG EAST, the Owls are 3-2 and sit in fourth place in the conference standings, behind three other Top 20 teams.

Temple will have just one home game remaining after this weekend, as the Owls will celebrate Senior Day against Georgetown on Friday, Oct. 25. After wrapping up BIG EAST play at UConn on Nov. 2, the Owls will look to have secured a spot in the four-team BIG EAST Tournament which will be hosted by UConn on Nov. 8 and 10.

PLAY 4 THE CURE
The Play 4 The Cure movement was created by Mystx Field Hockey Club founder, director, and head coach Tina Reinprecht. Tina's longtime desire was to create an indoor field hockey benefit tournament for breast cancer research. A tournament home was found for the event at the SportsPlex in Feastervile, PA in 2006. The benefit was dedicated to mothers of players in the Mystx FH Club who fought the fight against breast cancer.

Temple has joined hands with the National Foundation for Cancer Research to participate in its Play 4 The Cure fundraising campaign, in which sports teams across the country are invited to participate by committing to donate proceeds from at least one game to NFCR.

ALUMNI DAY
The Owls are honoring all alumni in attendance on Friday at halftime. If you are a field hockey alum, please check in with Temple Marketing by the entrance gate.

BIG EAST WELL-REPRESENTED IN THE TOP 20
There are currently four teams in the BIG EAST ranked in the Top 20- #2 Connecticut, #15 Old Dominion, #16 Temple and #17 Louisville. Temple's most recent game was against Old Dominion, and came down to the wire with the Owls ultimately falling short, 1-0.

TWO HAT TRICKS FOR TEMPLE
Junior Amber Youtz returned to action last week after missing some games due to injury, and made an immediate impact by scoring all three of the Owls' goals in a 3-1 win vs. Bucknell on Oct. 11. It was the fourth career hat trick for Youtz, who has 13 goals this season in just 10 games played. Senior Molly Doyle, who is currently tied for seventh in the conference in goals, scored all four of Temple's goals in two games the week before last. She scored the Owls' goal in a 2-1 overtime loss at Louisville, and then recorded her first career hat trick by leading Temple to a 3-1 win over Bucknell.

TEMPLE IN THE NCAA STATS
As a team, the Owls lead all teams in NCAA Division I in saves percentage at .826. Temple is 10th in the nation in assists per game (2.64). Redshirt junior goalkeeper Lizzy Millen is third in saves percentage at .819, which leads all players in the BIG EAST. In the latest NCAA Division I RPI rankings, the Owls are listed at #11 out of 80 total teams.

SCOUTING APPALACHIAN STATE
The Mountaineers are 2-11 overall and have lost eight straight heading into Friday's game. One of their most recent losses was a narrow one, 4-3 in overtime at Davidson. Three players have scored three goals to lead Appalachian State, including Lindsay Amador who has also tallied four assists to lead the team with 10 total points.
