PHILADELPHIA (Buckley Field) - One goal proved to be enough for #16 Temple field hockey on Sunday afternoon, as Nicole Kroener's second-half penalty stroke goal lifted the Owls (12-4) to a 1-0 win at #20 Drexel (10-5). It was the second-straight shutout win for Temple.
Lizzy Millen recorded three saves to preserve the shutout, which was her fifth of the season.
Drexel's five first-half saves prevented Temple from getting on the board despite out-shooting the Dragons, 8-4. Both teams had two penalty corners but were unable to convert.
Just over 11 minutes into the second half, Kroener was awarded a penalty stroke, and got it past Drexel goalkeeper Jantien Gunter for the game-winner. Kroener is the only Temple player to take a stroke this season, and has made both of her attempts.
The Owls had two more corners in the remaining time, but Gunter came up with three saves to prevent Temple from scoring an insurance goal. Drexel took just one shot in the remaining time, which was saved by Millen.
Next up for Temple is Senior Day, as the Owls play their final home game against Georgetown on Friday, Oct. 25 at 3:00 p.m.
