PHILADELPHIA – Fresh off a 72-71 win at Dayton, the Temple men's basketball team will look to push its win streak to three games when the Owls host the Duquesne Dukes Thursday night at the Liacouras Center (7:00 pm/OwlAccess/1210 AM WPHT). Temple is offering a Valentine's Day special for the game as fans can purchase two upper level tickets for just $14.00.
Head coach Fran Dunphy's Owls will not be looking to show the visiting Dukes any love as every game is critical in the tightly-contested Atlantic 10 Conference standings. Temple (16-7, 5-4 A10) is currently tied for seventh in the conference, just two games out of first place. The top four teams get an all-important bye in the A10 Tournament and currently three teams are tied for the final spot with 6-3 league marks.
Senior guard Khalif Wyatt, who earned A10 Player of the Week honors for the second straight week and third time this season Monday, continues to pace the Owls and the Conference with an 18.9 scoring average. The 6-4 guard, who is averaging 24.3 points over the last nine outings, also tops Temple is assists (3.9 apg.) and three-pointers made (2.1 pg.).
Sophomore forward Anthony Lee (11.3 ppg./7.7 rpg.) and senior swingman Scootie Randall (10.7 ppg., 6.2 rpg.) also average double figures for the Cherry and White while ranking one-two on the team in rebounding. Senior forward Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson (8.5 ppg., 5.1 rpg.) and sophomore guard Will Cummings (5.9 ppg.) round out the starting five.
Graduate students Jake O'Brien (8.4 ppg.) and T.J. DiLeo (2.7 ppg.) are the first off the bench for the Owls with junior Dalton Pepper (2.5 ppg.) and freshman Quenton DeCosey (2.3 ppg.) also factoring in the rotation.
Duquesne (7-16, 0-9 A10), under the direction of first-year head coach Jim Ferry, enters play looking to snap an 11-game losing streak. The Dukes will have to do that in a venue where they are winless (0-8 at the Liacouras Center).
A young team, Duquesne started three freshmen for the first time this season in Saturday's 73-65 home loss to Xavier. Forward Quevyn Winters (8.7 ppg.) tied his career highs with 19 points and four assists, guard/forward Jeremiah Jones (8.0 ppg.) added 11 points and a career-high seven rebounds and leading scorer point guard Derrick Colter (12.7 ppg.) had eight points and four rebounds.
Besides Colter, senior guard Sean Johnson (12.3 ppg.) averages double figures for Duquesne.
Temple leads the series, 40-14, and has won five of the last six meetings.
