PHILADELPHIA - The first nationally ranked opponent of the season is next up for Temple men's basketball, as the Owls (5-8, 0-3) will host #24/22 Memphis (11-3, 2-1) on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 3:00 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN2 with Mike Patrick on play-by-play and Len Elmore as the color analyst.
• The Owls are still looking for their first win in The American after close losses against Rutgers (71-66), UCF (78-76) and USF(82-75).
• Temple is the only team in Division I to have four players averaging 14 or more ppg, a feat that has never been achieved in program history.
• Dalton Pepper, tops the team in scoring (16.7 ppg, 5th AAC) and three-pointers (2.4 pg, 2nd AAC) and is second in 3-pt percentage (.402, 11th).
• Anthony Lee (14.3 ppg) continues to lead the conference in rebounding (9.5 rpg), and has six double-doubles on the season after scoring 22 points and adding 10 boards vs. USF.
• Quenton DeCosey (15.8 ppg), who has topped 20 points in 2 of the last 3 games, is the only Owl to have scored double figures in every game.
• Will Cummings, who ranks second on the team and fifth in the league with 16.5 ppg, missed the entire second half of the USF game due to concussion-like symptoms. His status is day-to-day.
• Redshirt junior Jimmy McDonnell is coming off a career night vs. USF, setting new highs in minutes (31), points (10), rebounds (5), assists (3).
• Temple is having one of its top offensive seasons, averaging 78.2 points per game. That would rank as the second-best offensive output in program history.
• Temple and Memphis are meeting for the 11th time, but the first in almost 14 years.
• Memphis won the last meeting back on March 26, 2002, by a narrow margin of 78-77 in the NIT Semifinals at Madison Square Garden.
• The Tigers, 11-3 overall, are coming off a 73-67 win at #12/8 Louisville. All five starters scored in double figures in the win.
• Senior guard Joe Jackson leads a balanced Memphis scoring attack, averaging 15.0 points per game.
