#16 Field Hockey Celebrates Senior Day on Saturday Against #4 UConn

10.30.14 | Field Hockey

PHILADELPHIA - One of the best senior classes in the history of Temple field hockey will be honored on Saturday, Nov. 1, when the 16th-ranked Owls (13-5, 3-1) host the fourth-ranked UConn Huskies (13-3, 4-0) at 1:00 p.m. Both teams have already clinched berths in next week's BIG EAST Conference Tournament (Nov. 7 and 9), but the game does have seeding implications.

Seniors Nicole Kroener, Lizzy Millen and Amber Youtz will be honored and escorted by their families in a presentation prior to the start of the game. Look for a Senior Day video to be released before the weekend, and read each seniors career highlights further down the page.

Temple will be seeded no lower than #3 in the BIG EAST Tournament, and could be as high as #1 by beating UConn by a margin of at least three goals. If the Owls win by less than three and ODU loses to Georgetown on Friday, the Owls would earn the #2 seed. If the Owls win by less than three and ODU defeats Georgetown, Temple would be the third seed and ODU will earn the #2 seed. Providence and Villanova will play each other on Saturday, with the winner earning the fourth and final berth. Providence will serve as the host of the tournament. The semifinals are set for 1:00 p.m./3:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7, with the championship game set for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 9. Both semifinal games and the final game will stream live on the BIG EAST Digital Network.

The Owls have won five of their last six games and are coming off a 2-0 weekend. Temple recorded two shutouts last week, beating Georgetown 4-0 on the road and returning home for a 4-0 home win vs. Lafayette. The Owls are nationally ranked for the eighth week in a row, coming in at #16 in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll, released on Oct. 28.

UConn has won seven straight games and is 13-3 coming into the weekend. The Huskies are ranked #4 in the nation and are the defending NCAA and BIG EAST champs. UConn won two games against the Owls last season, and hold a 5-2-1 lead in the all-time series.
