NEW YORK - In the final meet before the American Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, many Temple men's track and field athletes earned personal bests and season bests at the Lafayette/Rider Winter Games on Friday, Feb. 14. The Owls were originally scheduled to compete at the Iowa State Classic on both Friday and Saturday, but much of the team went to New York instead due to flight cancellations.
Some team members did still compete at the Iowa State Classic, only on day two. Junior Matt Kacyon ran a personal-best time of 8:27.09 in the 3000m, and sophomore Alex Izewski finished in a personal-best time of 8:34.55 in the same event.
Freshman Joseph Ho came in fifth in the 60m hurdles in a personal-best time of 8.56. Junior Alimamy Kallay and sophomore Jamal Williams took sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 60m dash. For Kallay it was a season-best time of 7.17, and Williams was just short of his personal best (7.12), finishing in 7.18. Williams did go on to record a personal best time of 22.89 in the 200m.
Two Owls made their season debuts, including senior Gabe Pickett after having surgery in the fall. He earned a mark of 13.85 in the triple jump. Junior Evan Battallio, a transfer student who was previously on the Owls' football roster, placed fifth in the shot put with a mark of 14.45m.
Senior Dylan Pensyl took fifth in the long jump with a season-best mark of 6.89, and was ninth in the 200m in a season best time of 22.80. Freshman Adam Hasan took sixth in the 200m with a season-best time of 22.68.
