Baseball Drops Conference Game 13-7 to Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Temple men's baseball (6-10, 1-1) fell to Memphis (15-7, 1-1) 13-7 on Saturday afternoon at FedEx Park.
Memphis scored six runs off starter Preston Hill in the second inning to grab a lead they wouldn't relinquish. The Tigers added one more run in the third inning off Patrick Vanderslice and four more in the sixth against Daniel Wasson and Phil Gianakos.
Temple scored five runs in the seventh inning. Derek Peterson doubled down the left field line to start the inning. Rob Amaro knocked in Peterson with a double down the right field line. Nick West singled to right center to move Amaro to third. Andrew Nist scored Amaro with a single to left center. With one out, Jimmy Kerrigan walked. Josh Mason then walked with the bases loaded to allow West to score. With two outs, a wild pitch allowed everyone to advance a base and have Nist cross home plate safely. David Hall walked for the Owls' third walk of the inning. Another wild pitch allowed Jimmy Kerrigan to score.
The Tigers added another two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning before the Owls scored two in the eighth. With one out West walked.
Bobby Heitzman doubled to right field with two outs to move West to third. Jimmy Kerrigan then singled to left center to knock in both Heitzman and West.
Kerrigan had two hits in three at-bats with two RBI and one run to help the Owls collect nine hits in the game.
The final game of the conference opening series is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow.
