FIRST PITCH
Temple continues American Athletic Conference play at home this weekend.  The Owls host USF on Friday, April 11 at 7 p.m.; Saturday, April 12 at 3 p.m., and Sunday, April 13 at Noon.  All games will be played at Campbell's Field in Camden, N.J.
 
Owls TV will videostream Friday's game live online with Ed LeFurge calling the action and Ean Dunn providing analysis.  Ed LeFurge will be calling the action for a live audio stream on Saturday and Sunday.
 
SCOUTING TEMPLE
The Owls, under third-year head coach Ryan Wheeler, stand 9-16 overall and 4-5 in American Athletic Conference play.
 
After 24 games, senior OF Bobby Heitzman is the Owls' leading hitter with a .321 batting average. He's scored six runs on nine hits and has five doubles, a triple, and six RBI.  Senior 1B Robert Amaro (.292) follows with 26 hits and a team-best 25 RBI in 25 starts. Sophomore C Michael D'Acunti has a .290 batting average.  He has 18 hits and nine RBI.  A starter in all 25 games, senior 3B Derek Peterson (.283) scored a team-best 20 runs on 26 hits with a team-leading 13 doubles.
 
On the mound, senior RHP Matt Hockenberry (3.04 ERA) sports a 4-1 record in 47.1 innings pitched, the most of any Owl.  He's fanned 31 batters and walked 10.  Freshman RHP Patrick Vanderslice (7.56 ERA) has appeared in 10 games with one start.  He's struck out 10 batters and walked five.  Redshirt senior RHP Ryan Kuehn (3.15 ERA) has played in eight contests with three starts. He has fanned 13 batters and walked nine.
 
SCOUTING USF
The Bulls, under the guidance of eighth-year head coach Lelo Prado stand 18-14 overall and 5-4 in American play.
 
Freshman RHP/OF Daniel Portales (.308) is the Bulls' leading hitter. In 30 games, he has 33 hits, 14 runs, and 15 RBI. Junior IF Kyle Teaf (.306) follows with 34 hits, 23 runs, and 10 RBI. Freshman IF/OF Luke Borders (.276) has 15 hits and seven RBI.
 
On the mound, sophomore RHP Jimmy Herget (1.14 ERA) is 4-4 in eight starts.  He's pitched 55.1 innings, striking out 41 and walking 18.  Junior RHP Casey Mulholland (2.74) is 3-0 in nine games. He's thrown 49.1 innings with 35 strikeouts and 18 walks.
 
SERIES VS. BULLS
USF holds a 11-4 series edge over Temple since the teams first met in 1973.  This is their first meeting in American Athletic Conference play.
 
In their last meeting on March 10, 1992, USF claimed an 11-1 win at home.
 
OWL NOTES & TRENDS
•             Three Owls— Robert Amaro, Jimmy Kerrigan, and Derek Peterson— have started every game this season.
•             Senior Matt Hockenberry has been the Owls' No. 1 pitcher all season. His  four victories ranks sixth in the American Athletic Conference.  His walks allowed per nine innings of 1.9 is fifth in the conference.
•             R-junior Zach Batchelor is TU's top reliever.  He is now tied for seventh in career saves for Temple with six.  He is also tied for fourth of the season record for saves.  Batchelor is ranked fifth in the conference in saves as well.
•             Senior Derek Peterson ranks third nationally and first in the American with .54 doubles a game.  He is first in the conference and 15th nationally with 15 doubles overall.
•             Senior Robert Amaro is 50th nationally and second in the American for RBI per game with a 1.00 average.  He is sixth in the conference with 24 total RBI.  He is also 44th and third in the conference with 4 sacrifice flies.
•             Temple played its first home game of the 2014 season on April 1 vs. Delaware.
•             Mother Nature has not been kind to Temple this spring, cancelling or postponing all home games until April 1.
•             TU opened American Athletic Conference play at Memphis, capturing two wins.
•             The Owls hosted Cincinnati in their first American Athletic Conference home games, claiming two victories.
•             Senior Robert Amaro is the nephew of Philadelphia Phillies' general manager Ruben Amaro.
•             Four conference schools— Cincinnati, Houston, Louisville, and Memphis are first-time opponents.
