Baseball Drops Conference Game to South Florida 13-6

AMBLER, Pa. – Temple baseball dropped an American Athletic Conference game against USF 13-6 at Skip Wilson Field on Friday afternoon.  The loss drops Temple's record to 9-17, 4-6 while USF improves to 19-14, 6-4.

The game was originally scheduled to be played at Campbell's Field at 7:00 p.m. but was moved to Skip Wilson Field at 2:30 p.m. due to expected rain to start tonight.

USF scored one run in the first inning, two runs each in the second and third, and five in the fourth to take early command of the game.  Starter Matt Hockenberry gave up 11 hits in four innings pitched, allowing five earned runs and two walks with two strikeouts.

Temple scored its first run in the third inning.  With one out, Reyn Sugai reached on an error by the shortstop and went to second on a passed ball.  Derek Peterson then hit a double to left field with two outs to knock in Sugai.

The Owls scored the last five runs of the game.  In the seventh, Jimmy Kerrigan led off with a double to center field.  He went to third on a groundout by Sean ArnottTexas Williams scored Kerrigan with a sacrifice fly to center field.

Three runs were scored in the eighth.  With one out, Nick West walked.  Daniel Dragos then singled to left field.  Kerrigan homered to left field for his first home run of the season.

One final run was added in the ninth.  Williams walked with one out.  Robert Amaro singled to right field that knocked in Williams.

Kerrigan led the Owls at the plate with three hits in four at-bats, including two runs and three RBI.

The Owls will take on the Bulls tomorrow at Campbell's Field at 3:00 p.m.  Patrick Vanderslice will serve as the starting pitcher for Temple.
