4.9.14 | Baseball
AMBLER, Pa. – Temple baseball fell to Lehigh in the consolation round of the Liberty Bell Classis 3-2 in 10 innings at Skip Wilson Field on Wednesday afternoon. The loss drops Temple's record to 9-16 while Lehigh improves to 13-14.
Lehigh scored the game-winning run in the top of the 10th off Temple reliever Zach White. A grounder to third baseman Josh Mason could have ended the inning, but the run scored when Rob Amaro was not able to handle the throw.
Temple had jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first. Reyn Sugai leadoff the inning and was hit by a pitch. Daniel Dragos singled to left field. A Derek Peterson fly out to right field was able to advance Sugai to third. Rob Amaro then doubled to left field to knock in Sugai and advance Dragos to third. A wild pitch then allowed Dragos to score.
Connor Statskey got his first start of the season and pitched four no-hit innings. He had five strikeouts with two walks. Simon Mathews then pitched the next two innings, allowing no hits as well.
Patrick Krall allowed the first Lehigh run in the seventh. The Mountain Hawks tied the game up in the ninth with a RBI single to the shortstop.
Dragos was the only hitter of both teams to have more than one hit, going two for four with one walk.
The Owls return to conference play on Friday at Campbell's Field against the South Florida Bulls. Matt Hockenberry will start the game, which is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
