PHILADELPHIA - For the second year in a row, Temple field hockey is hosting the Harrow Cup at Geasey Field on June 7-8. The post-collegiate event is in its second year, and features over 200 of the best alums from women's field hockey teams. Temple's Associate Head Coach, Kelly Driscoll, was part of the winning team in the event's inaugural year in 2013.
The Harrow Cup features a $10,000 winner takes all cash prize. Six teams will compete in the weekend-long competition. The idea for the Harrow Cup was born during the 2012 National Field Hockey Festival in West Palm Beach, Fla. Inspired by the passion, excitement, and enthusiasm of the Harrow Field Hockey staff at their annual opportunity to play, Mark Hayden, the leader of Harrow Sports, decided that more needed to be done for this underserved market segment. The Harrow Cup aims to serve the post-collegiate market by providing a competitive and exciting opportunity to play.
Driscoll will once again play for the Mambas team, and will also serve as the team's captain. The 2014 Mambas will feature six players with Temple connections, including Driscoll. Also playing are Temple Head Coach Amanda Janney and Graduate Assistant Coach Danica Deckard, along with alums Molly Doyle ('14), Mandi Shearer ('14) and Alli Lokey ('08).
Five of the six teams at the Harrow Cup will have players with Temple backgrounds. Haley Dervinis ('04) will play for the Titans, All-American Bridget Settles ('12, '14), will play for the Tembos, and Caryn Lambright ('12) will play for the Tomahawks. Sarah Pergine, an academic advisor for Temple Athletics, Iowa alum and former volunteer assistant coach for the Owls, will play for the Vipers.
