1.20.15 | Men's Basketball
PHILADELPHIA - Looking to end a season-long three-game losing streak, the Temple men's basketball team returns to the friendly confines of the Liacouras Center Thursday to play host to the USF Bulls. The game tips off at 6:30 p.m. and will be televised by ESPNews and broadcast on 1210 AM WPHT.
Thursday is Temple's RecycleMania game with the first 500 members of the student section will receive a free tee shirt, courtesy of Temple's Office of Sustainability.
The Owls (12-7, 3-3 American) have been without the services of senior co-captain Will Cummings (12.9 ppg, 3.9 apg) for most of the current three-game stretch. Â The Temple guard suffered a strained muscle in his lower left leg early in the second half of the Tulsa loss with TU leading by 11. Â He then came off the bench for 27 minutes against SMU, but was held to just a single point. Â The preseason second team all-league pick missed the entire game at Cincinnati last Saturday. Â His availability Thursday will be a game-time decision.
Cummings is one of three Owl guards scoring in double figures with junior Quenton DeCosey (13.4 ppg) topping the team and senior transfer Jesse Morgan (12.9 ppg) tying for second. Â Junior forward Jaylen Bond (8.5 ppg, 8.3 rpg) continues to top the conference in rebounding while junior center Devontae Watson (1.8 ppg, 2.7 rpg) is among the league leaders in blocks (1.1 bpg).
Sophomore Josh Brown (6.9 ppg) has been the Owls' top reserve and filled in admirably for Cummings at Cincinnati. Â He is likely to start his third straight game against USF. Â Freshman Obi Enechionyia (4.3 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 1.3 bpg) made four straight starts before scoring a season-high 14 points off the bench Saturday. Â
Junior Devin Coleman (4.6 ppg) and sophomores Daniel Dingle (4.7 ppg) and Mark Williams (4.8 ppg) have all contributed in the team's 10-man rotation. Â
Senior guard Corey Allen, Jr. leads first-year head coach Orlando Antigua's Bulls (7-11, 1-4 American) with a 14.8 scoring average. Junior guard Anthony Collins is the team and conference leader with 5.7 assists per game while sophomore forward Chris Perry leads the Bulls on the glass with 7.3 rpg and is USF's only other player averaging double figures in scoring at 11.3 ppg.
USF leads the series 2-1 with the teams each winning on their own floor last season.
