9.19.15 | Field Hockey

PHILADELPHIA - For a fourth time already in the young season, Temple field hockey will face an opponent ranked in the Top 20 as the Owls host #12 Northwestern on Sunday. Game time is set for noon at Geasey Field, and fans unable to attend can follow along with free live video and live stats.

The Owls improved to 3-4 overall with a win on Friday at Monmouth. Senior Alyssa Delp recorded the first hat trick of career, scoring the first three of Temple's four goals in a 4-2 win. Delp and fellow senior Sarah Deck both scored in the second half to break open a 2-2 tie at halftime.

Delp now leads the team with seven goals for the season, while Deck is close behind with six. Seniors Tricia Light and Rachel Steinman lead the team with three assists each. Through seven games, the Owls have dominated in penalty corner chances, earning 56 to their opponents' 41.

Senior goalkeeper Haley Mitchell has started every game for the Owls, and made five saves in the Monmouth win.

Northwestern is 6-3 overall heading into Sunday's game, and is coming off a 3-2 loss at #10 Maryland on Friday. Juniors Isabel Flens and Dominique Masters are tied for the team lead with eight goals apiece in 2015, while senior Charlotte Martin leads the Wildcats with seven assists.

Temple and Northwestern have faced each other five times previously, but the most recent meeting was in 1999. Northwestern holds a 3-2 lead in the series and won 2-0 in Philadelphia in that most recent meeting 16 years ago. The Owls' last win in the series was a 1-0 overtime victory in Evanston in 1993. Northwestern head coach Tracey Fuchs is the sister of Lauren Fuchs, Temple's head coach from 1993 to 2004.
