Field Hockey Hosts Monmouth on Sunday at 1 PM

PHILADELPHIA - Temple field hockey will complete a six-game homestand on Sunday, Sept. 18 at 1 pm against Monmouth. The Owls are celebrating Alumnae Day, and all alums in attendance will receive a t-shirt. Temple is also hosting a pregame clinic from 10-11 a.m. For more information on the clinic, click HERE.
The Owls lost their BIG EAST opener to Providence on Friday night in heartbreaking fashion. Trailing 2-0 with just over five minutes remaining in regulation, Temple scored back-to-back goals to tie the game and force overtime. Despite holding the momentum going into the extra period, after 10 minutes of play it was the Friars who scored the next goal to take the conference win. It was the third loss in a row for Temple, as the Owls have started the season 1-6 overall.
Four different players have scored two goals apiece to lead Temple, while freshman Maddie Lilliock has impressive in the cage for the Owls. She tied her season high with 11 saves in Friday's game, and has recorded double digits in saves in three of seven games so far.
Monmouth has won six of seven games to start the season, and is coming off a 3-0 home win against Saint Joseph's on Friday. The Hawks' lone loss so far was a 4-0 decision vs. #19 Iowa. Senior midfielder Alyssa Ercolino leads Monmouth with seven goals and 16 total points, while junior back Julie Laszlo is the team leader with six assists so far this season. Junior goalkeeper Christen Piersanti has played the majority of time in goal for the Hawks with 29 saves to just five goals allowed. Monmouth finished 8-11 last season, and has been picked to finish second in the MAAC this season.
Temple leads Monmouth 4-2 in the all-time series, and won 4-2 on the road last season.Â
