Men's Basketball Plays at Tulane on Tuesday Night

1.30.17 | Men's Basketball

NEW ORLEANS, La. - In the second game of a two-game road swing, Temple men's basketball will face Tulane at 8 p.m. Eastern time on Tuesday, Jan. 31 (ESPNews / 1210 AM WPHT). The Owls (11-11, 2-7) will look to close out the month of January with their third American Athletic Conference victory, while the Green Wave (4-17, 1-8) look to snap a five-game losing streak.

Temple split games last week, getting a much-needed 77-66 win over Memphis at home on Jan. 25, but coming up short against Houston on the road in a 79-66 loss on Jan. 28.

With a game-high 22 points in the Memphis win, sophomore Shizz Alston, Jr. hit the 20-point mark for a third game in a row and became the Owls' leading scorer this season, now with 14.0 ppg (10th in the conference). Alston scored a career-high 25 points in back-to-back games vs. Tulsa (Jan. 14) and at #20/20 Cincinnati (Jan. 18).

With 8.9 three-pointers made per game, Temple leads all teams in the league this season. The Owls have been shooting the long ball especially well of late, making 10 or more three-pointers in five of the last seven games including each of the last three. Temple has twice made a season-high 12 three-pointers (vs. GW/at Cincinnati) and in a 77-66 win vs. Memphis on Jan. 25, the Owls hit 11 shots from long range. Leading the charge are junior Obi Enechionyia (51 three-pointers) and Alston (45 three-pointers), with Alston draining a whopping 17 treys total in the last four games.

Tulane has struggled all season long, and has won just once in its last 11 games. Three players average in double figures in scoring for the Green Wave, led by redshirt junior guard Cameron Reynolds with 15.4 ppg along with a team-best 6.6 rpg.

Temple and Tulane are meeting for the eighth time but only the fourth in just over 20 years. Temple has won four straight, and leads the series 5-2.

The teams met just once last year, in New Orleans, with the Owls winning 64-56 to clinch the American Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship on March 6, 2016.
