Seniors to be Honored When Field Hockey Faces Lafayette on Sunday

PHILADELPHIA - In its final game of the 2017 season, Temple field hockey will recognize the contributions of five seniors who are playing in their last game as Owls. The contest against Lafayette is set for 2 p.m. at Howarth Field, and the Senior Day ceremony will begin at approximately 1:50 p.m.

Maiyah Brown
Since arriving on campus as a freshman, Maiyah has played in every single game for the Owls, making 57 starts in those 77 appearances. She has scored six goals and added five assists for 17 total points. Two of her six goals were crucial game winners for the Owls over the past 3 seasons. Maiyah is a sport and recreation management major at Temple, and hails from Allentown, Pa.

Sarah Keer
After being sidelined by injury in 2013, Sarah returned strong and has made her presence felt more and more over the past four seasons. She has played in every game for the last three years and will make her 80th appearance today. Sarah has scored 11 goals and added nine assists for 31 total points, and has four goals this season including two game-winners. From Lehighton, Pa., Sarah is a sport and recreation management major at Temple and has been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll each of the past three years and to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team twice. 

Ashley Kucera
After sitting out due to injury her freshman year, Ashley has played in 49 games for the Owls and has helped anchor an extremely strong defensive unit over the last few seasons. Her two defensive saves this year have helped the Owls rank second in the nation in that category. From Spring City, Pa., Ashley is a kinesiology major at Temple and was named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll in 2016 for having a GPA of 3.0 or above, while also earning BIG EAST All-Academic Team recognition. 

Hattie Kuhns
Hattie has played in 65 games with 45 starts for Temple over the last four years, and has added six assists to four goals for 14 total points. As a sophomore, one of her two goals came in a crucial 3-2 overtime win at Villanova that helped send the Owls to the BIG EAST Tournament. From Millerstown, Pa., Hattie is a kinesiology major at Temple and she has been named to both the Athletic Director's Honor Roll and BIG EAST All-Academic Team in each year of her career. 

Rachael Mueller
Rachael has led Temple in scoring for two straight seasons, this year with six goals and four assists for 16 total points. She was a Preseason All-BIG EAST honoree this year, and was a BIG EAST Second Team selection as a junior after scoring a team-best 10 goals including three game-winners. In November, Rachael will participate in the NFHCA Division I Senior Game after being one of 38 selected from around the country. From Warminster, Pa., Rachael is a strategic communications major at Temple. She has been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll, NFHCA National Academic Team and BIG EAST All-Academic Team in each year of her career. 

Scouting Temple
> The Owls are 4-13 overall and looking for a win to end the season after suffering five straight losses.
> Temple kept it close for much of the first half against Liberty in its most recent game on Friday, but ultimately lost 6-2 to the Flames.
> Keer and sophomore Maddie Merton both scored for the Owls against Liberty, with Keer also adding an assist.
> Mueller leads Temple this season with six goals and four assists for 16 total points. Merton has 11 points, while Keer is also in double digits with 10 points.

Scouting Lafayette
> The Leopards are 6-9 overall and 2-3 in the Patriot League.They have lost three straight heading into the weekend, and will host Holy Cross on Saturday before heading to Temple.
> Lafayette's most recent loss was a 3-2 overtime decision vs. Quinnipiac on Oct. 23. 
> Temple and Lafayette have had three other common opponents in addition to Quinnipiac. The Leopards beat Fairfield 4-0, lost to Villanova 1-0 and beat Bucknell 1-0.
> Freshman Grace Angelella leads Lafayette with five goals, while senior Ellen Colbourne is the team's leader in total points with 11 after adding a team-best five assists to three goals.

All-Time vs. Lafayette
> Temple leads Lafayette 21-9-2 all-time and has beaten the Leopards in each of the past four seasons.
> Last year, the Owls won 3-1 at home in the final game of the regular season, and in 2015, they won 4-1 on the road.
> Lafayette's last win in the series was in 2010 by a score of 2-1 in double overtime at Temple.
