12.1.17 | Men's Basketball

PHILADELPHIA - In the final game away from North Broad Street before its home opener, Temple men's basketball will head to Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. to face former rival George Washington in the BB&T Classic at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 3 (MASN/NBC Sports Philadelphia/1210 AM WPHT). The Owls (4-1) and the Colonials (3-4) were longtime members of the Atlantic 10 Conference together until 2013.

Scouting Temple
> The Owls are 4-1 and off to their best start since 2012-13 when they went 6-0 before losing their first game.
> Most recently, Temple took down 2017 NCAA Final Four Team South Carolina, winning 76-60 and leading by as many as 23 points in the final seven minutes. Sophomores Quinton Rose (24 points) and Damion Moore (career-high 20 points) led the way, with Moore adding a career-high 10 rebounds for his first career double-double.
> In the Owls' lone loss, 87-83 in a Philadelphia Big 5 battle at La Salle on Nov. 26, they never trailed until the final 1:05.
> Rose leads Temple and ranks third in the American Athletic Conference with 18.8 ppg. He has made 10 field goals in each of the past two games, including going 10-for-13 (.769) in the South Carolina win.
> Temple won the team title at the 2017 Gildan Charleston Classic to start the season, going 3-0. It was the first Charleston Classic win for the Owls in three appearances, and they now stand at 7-2 all-time in the tournament.
> This season marked the first in program history that Temple started the year with three straight wins away from home. In all, the Owls will play six road games before their home opener vs. Wisconsin on Dec. 6.
> Senior forward Obi Enechionyia became the 52nd player in program history to reach 1,000 points with his 16-point effort at La Salle on Nov. 26. Enechionyia has now scored 1,029 career points.
> Junior guard Shizz Alston, Jr. has hit a perfect 16-of-16 free throws so far this season, and has now made 44 free throws in a row dating back to Dec. 28, 2016. His streak is the second-longest in program history behind Lynn Greer's 49 consecutive free throws.

Scouting George Washington
> The Colonials are 3-4 overall and had lost three straight before beating Morgan State in their most recent game, 73-66 on Nov. 29.
> GW has a tough schedule, already with losses to #15 Xavier, Florida State and Kansas State.
> Senior guard Yuta Watanabe of Japan is leading the Colonials with 14.7 ppg. Watanabe scored a career-high 26 points in the Morgan State win.
> Sophomore forward Arnaldo Toro and Watanabe average a team-best 7.4 and 7.3 rebounds per game, respectively.
> The Colonials finished at 20-15 a year ago and advanced to the CBI Second Round. Two starters returned from that lineup - Watanabe and sophomore guard Jair Bolden (currently with a team-best 3.6 assists per game).

All-Time Series
> Temple and George Washington are meeting for the 71st time, with the Owls holding a 53-17 advantage in the series.
> The Owls and the Colonials were both members of the Atlantic 10 from 1982 until 2013. Sunday's meeting marks just the third contest since the teams ceased to be conference opponents.
> Temple had won seven straight against GW until last season, when the Colonials won 66-63 at the Liacouras Center on Dec. 7. The year prior, the Owls won 90-77 at home in the NIT Second Round on March 22, 2015.
> GW's last win in the series prior to the 2016-17 season was on Feb. 17, 2007 on its home court, 84-72.
