Field Hockey to Face No. 14 Northwestern and Kent State in Illinois

PHILADELPHIA - Temple field hockey is in the midst of a five-game road swing, and is heading to Evanston, Ill. this weekend to face both #14 Northwestern and Kent State. The Owls will play at Northwestern at 2 p.m. Eastern on Friday, Sept. 8, and will face Kent State at the same time on Saturday.
Scouting the Owls
> Temple is looking for its first win after starting off 0-3 this season.
> The Owls' most recent loss was a 5-0 decision at #7 Penn State. They held the Nittany Lions scoreless for 30 minutes and trailed just 1-0 at halftime, but gave up too many penalty corners in the second half.
> Northwestern is the second Top 25 team the Owls will face this month, with another set for Sept. 22 when Temple hosts BIG EAST foe #2 UConn.
> Senior Rachael Mueller and redshirt senior Sarah Keer are the Owls' lone goal-scorers so far in 2017. Mueller, an All-BIG EAST Second Team selection in 2016 and a Preseason All-BIG EAST honoree this year, is the team's leading returning scorer, posting 10 goals as a junior. Sophomore Maddie Merton returns as the squad's second-leading goal-scorer with six goals in her debut campaign.
> Temple was picked to finish fifth of eight teams in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches Poll, and will need to better that pick by at least one to earn a berth in the BIG EAST Tournament at Providence on Nov. 3 and 5. The Owls have made 14 straight appearances in a conference tournament, including all four seasons for which they've been a part of the BIG EAST.

> The Wildcats lost 7-0 at #4 UConn, 3-2 in OT vs. #12 Boston College and 1-0 vs. #2 Duke. Their second win was a 4-0 decision at Temple's BIG EAST foe Providence.
> Six different players have scored for Northwestern, but only Eva van Agt has more than one goal, leading the Wildcats with two including the lone game-winning tally vs. Stanford.
> Northwestern finished with a record of 13-8 last season and returned eight starters from that team.
