Field Hockey Plays at BIG EAST and City Rival Villanova on Friday

PHILADELPHIA – It's just a one-game week for Temple field hockey, as the Owls play close to home in a BIG EAST contest at Villanova (6-8, 2-3) at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 19. Temple, at 2-13 overall, is looking to halt a losing streak and earn its first conference victory.
Scouting Temple
> The Owls are hoping to find a win this weekend after falling 9-1 to #25 Old Dominion and 2-1 in overtime at Drexel last weekend. Junior Becky Gerhart scored her first goal of the season in the match against Drexel while freshman Claire Thomas made her second defensive save in Old Dominion game.
> Junior Kathryn Edgar recorded her fourth assist and continues to lead the team. Edgar also leads the team in points with a total of eight for the season.
> Against Old Dominion, junior Lucy Reed scored on a penalty stroke for her team-leading fourth goal of the season.
> Sophomore Cristina Carotenuto got her first career start at Drexel, and made a big save that helped send the game to overtime. Carotenuto recorded a career high of four saves overall.
> With 16 defensive saves in 2018, Temple leads all teams in NCAA Division I. Sophomore Dani Batze has seven defensive saves to rank first in the nation while Gerhart has four (tied for fourth in the nation).
> The Owls' staff was completed on Sept. 18 with the official hiring of assistant coach Ross Gilham-Jones, a native of Great Britain. Gilham-Jones, who works primarily with the team's attack, most recently spent almost a year coaching the WC Eagles club team out of Pottstown.
Scouting Villanova
> The Wildcats are 6-8 overall (2-3 in BIG EAST play) and are coming off a two-game weekend that saw them lost 6-0 to #5 UConn before beating Longwood in overtime, 2-1. Junior Christen Pennington scored the overtime game-winner, the second she has scored for Villanova.
> Junior Abby Siana recorded a goal for Villanova against Longwood and is now tied for first in points for the Wildcats with 14.
> Senior goalkeeper Erika Miller was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week after the Wildcats' 2-1 win vs. Quinnipiac on Oct. 5. Miller recorded her 400th career save in the victory.
Series History vs. Villanova
>Temple leads the all-time series 12-5. Villanova has won in each of the last two seasons.
