Field Hockey Falls in Big East Finale

11.1.19 | Field Hockey

CAMDEN, Conn. – The Temple field hockey team fell 3-2 in double overtime Friday afternoon at Quinnipiac in the team's conference finale. With the loss, the Owls fall to 6-10 (2-5) on the season with one game left on the books.

Recapping the Game
> The Temple offense opened the game hot, with Becky Gerhart scoring the first goal less than a minute into the first quarter.
> The Owls were able to hold the Bobcats scoreless until the end of the second quarter, as Quinnipiac scored off a rebounded shot.
> Temple pulled ahead with two minutes left on the clock as Claire Thomas scored off a tipped ball from Kerrie Lorenz, but the Bobcats answered less than a minute later to force an overtime situation.
> Quinnipiac scored the game-winner in the second overtime to clinch the win.

Statistically Speaking
> The Bobcats outshot the Owls 19-14, though Temple was able to put six on target.
> Thomas led the team in shots with five, while Gerhart, Mia Sexton, and Sydney Beck put up two.
> Cristina Carotenuto recorded seven saves in the cage, giving her 70 saves on the season.

Quotable
"Today's game was not our best game. We went up 1-0 in the first two minutes of the game and then took our foot off the gas. We really struggled with errors and discipline. With two minutes remaining we went up 2-1 but our discipline, again, lacked and we allowed Quinnipiac to score with under a minute left. Overtime was actually our best portion of the game. We controlled both overtime periods, but just couldn't convert. We're happy we scored the two goals today, but the next step is putting together the attacking piece with the defensive piece. Claire Thomas and Sydney Beck both had great games, and Cristina Carotenuto had some stellar saves in the fourth quarter. Our seniors have been very critical in our first season together and have helped build the foundation for future teams. We will miss them tremendously as they will be a hard group to replace." – Temple head coach Susan Ciufo

Next Up
> Temple will close out the regular season Sunday afternoon, hosting LIU Brooklyn at 1 p.m. Senior day activities will begin prior to the start of the game, with seven seniors seeing their last game in the cherry and white.
