Rose, Defense Lead Men’s Basketball to 65-42 Win over Texas A&M

ORLANDO – Senior guard Quinton Rose rebounded from a tough shooting game to lead Temple to a 65-42 win over Texas A&M Friday in the consolation bracket of the Orlando Invitational. Rose who made just four-of-16 Thursday against Maryland, led all scorers with 19 points while also dishing a team-high four assists.
The Owls defense was stifling, holding the Aggies to 22.4 percent shooting from the field (13-58) and 18.2 percent from long range (6-33). The 42 points were the fewest by a Temple opponent since a 40-37 Owls win over American on Nov. 14, 2014.
Temple improves to 5-1 on the season while Texas A&M falls to 3-3.

Game Summary
- Rose, who also had six rebounds, was joined in double figures by senior Alani Moore II (14) and redshirt junior Monty Scott, who had a season high 11 points. Moore, who had 22 points against Maryland, made four threes on nine attempts while also making two steals.
- Nine of the 10 Owls who played contributed in the scoring column. Sophomore Jake Forrester was held scoreless, but tied juniors J.P. Moorman II (5 pts) and Nate Pierre-Louis (8 pts) with a game-high seven rebounds.
- Josh Nebo, who led Texas A&M with 12 points, was the only Aggie to score in double figures.
- Temple, which missed its first seven shots to start the game, finished at 44 percent from the field (22-50).
- The Owls scored 22 points off 13 A&M turnovers.
- Temple led for nearly the entire game, and was not threatened in the final 10 minutes.
- Neither team could make a shot in the opening minutes as the Owls missed their first seven attempts (0-5 from 3pt) while the Aggies made just one of seven in that stretch to take a 3-0 lead.
- Nate Pierre-Louis then hit Moorman with a nice pass for a lay-up and followed that with a steal and basket to put Temple ahead, 4-3.
- The teams would trade baskets with a three by Wendell Mitchell giving the Aggies their final lead at 11-8.
- The Owls then went on a 24-4 run over the next nine minutes to take a 32-15 lead. Rose started the run with six points while Moore (two), Scott and Perry combined for four three-pointers to open things up.
- The Aggies scored three points over the final minute to make it 32-18 at the break.
- Rose started the second half with a fast break dunk off a nice assist from Moorman.
- Texas A&M then showed signs of life, scoring eight straight to cut the Temple lead to single digits, 34-26.
- Back to back fast break baskets by Rose and Scott pushed the margin back to 12, but the Aggies answered back with a 14-2 run to cut it to a five-point contest (40-35) with just over 10 minutes remaining.
- Temple then took control for good, scoring 11 straight points with threes by Rose and Moore capping the run and pushing the lead to 51-35.
- Temple would hold Texas A&M to just one field goal over the final 12 minutes while coasting to its fifth win of the season.
- Temple takes on Davidson on Sunday at 4 pm. The television network has not been announced yet.
