Men's Basketball Hosts Big 5 Rival Saint Joseph's Tuesday

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Big 5 is known for its rivalries, but no city teams have faced each other on the hardwood more that Temple and Saint Joseph's. The 162nd installment of this rivalry takes places Tuesday night (7 pm/ESPNU/1210 AM WPHT) when the Owls (6-2, 1-0 Big 5) play the Hawks (2-8, 0-2) at the Liacouras Center.
SCOUTING THE OWLS
> Temple, under the direction of first-year head coach Aaron McKie, is looking to rebound from its second setback of the season (Missouri, 64-54) and improve to 2-0 in Big 5 play.Â
> Senior guard Quinton Rose, who has moved up to a tie with the late Mik Kilgore (1,471 pts, 1988-92) for 21st on Temple's all-time scoring list, leads the Owls with a 14.8 scoring average. Rose is also tied for the team lead with 27 assists while ranking third in rebounding (5.3 rpg) and steals (12).
> Junior guard Nate Pierre-Louis tops Temple in rebounding (8.9 rpg), steals (20) and assists (t-27) while ranking second in scoring (12.4 ppg). He already has three double-doubles on the season and four double-figure rebound games.
> Senior Alani Moore II (10.0 ppg) rounds out the Owls double-figure scorers. The 5-10 guard has more than doubled his offensive output from last year while leading the team in three-pointers (18) and free throw percentage (.875).
> Rounding out the starting five are juniors J.P. Moorman II (5.5 ppg), who ranks second on the team in rebounding (6.1 rpg) and third in assists (21), and Justyn Hamilton (4.6 ppg), who is coming off a nine-point game against Missouri.
> Sophomore Jake Forrester (6.8 ppg), who has made an immediate impact since joining the roster for the USC game, along with junior De'Vondre Perry (5.9 ppg) and redshirt junior Monty Scott (5.5 ppg) give Temple a boost off the bench.
> Temple's defense has been the key to its fast start. The Owls' opponents are shooting just 35.6 percent from the field (7th nationally) and 28.1 percent from three-point range (41st), both lead the conference and would be new program season records. Â

> Saint Joseph's, under the direction of first-year coach Billy Lange, is 2-8 on the season, dropping its last seven games. The team's last win was over UConn in a 96-87 road victory on Nov. 13.
> The Hawks went 0-3 at the Charleston Classic, falling to Florida, Missouri State, and Towson.
> The team is 1-2 on the road, with UConn being its only road win.
> Saint Joseph's ranks ninth nationally in three-point attempts with 299, making just 89 (29.8 percent).
> Redshirt junior Ryan Daly, the only Hawk averaging double-digits, leads the Big 5 and ranks 12th nationally with a 22.0 average. He also tops the team in rebounding (8.1 rpg) and assists (46).
> Lorenzo Edwards is next for SJU at 9.4 ppg while freshman Rahmir Moore, whose brother Ramone starred at Temple (1,393 pts) from 2008-12, averaging 8.8 ppg..
