Men's Basketball Continues Road Trip at Tulane on Saturday
2.1.19 | Men's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS - The month of February begins with the second of two straight road games for Temple men's basketball, as the Owls (15-6, 5-3) head to Tulane (4-16, 0-8) for a 6 p.m. (ET) contest on Saturday, Feb. 2 (ESPN3 / 1210 AM WPHT). Temple looks to get back to its winning ways after back-to-back losses, while Tulane looks to snap a 10-game losing streak.
Scouting Temple
> The Owls are looking for a fresh start in February after dropping three of their last four, but at 15-6 it is still the team's best start since 2011-12, and the fastest the program has reached the 15-win mark since the 2009-10 season.Â
> Temple's bid for a second upset of #13/13 Houston fell short as a season-high tying 26 points from junior Quinton Rose wasn't enough and the Owls lost 73-66 on Thursday. Temple remains the only team to defeat the Cougars this season.
> Last week saw Temple earn a big 85-76 win over Memphis before losing a lead to Cincinnati in a 72-68 loss. Rose scored 26 points in the Memphis win, leading five Owls who reached double figures in scoring, while sophomore J.P. Moorman II scored a career-high 20 points in the loss to Cincinnati.
> The Owls did defeat then-#17/15 Houston in the first meeting this season at home on Jan. 9, making it 12 seasons in a row that Temple has defeated a Top 25 program.Â
> Senior Shizz Alston, Jr. and Rose average 17.9 and 17.5 points per game, respectively, to lead the team and rank sixth and seventh in the American Athletic Conference. Alston has scored 20 or more points eight times this season and has earned two co-AAC Player of the Week awards.
> Sophomore Nate Pierre-Louis had scored in double figures in nine straight games until an eight-point effort at #13/13 Houston. He ranks second on the team in AAC games with 16.5 ppg.
Scouting Tulane
> The Green Wave, who have not won since Dec. 17, are coming off a tough loss in their best chance yet for an AAC win. They led by four at halftime, but came up short 66-65 at ECU.
> In the 10-game losing streak for Tulane, only two games were decided by fewer than five points, and only four by fewer than 10.
> Sophomore guard Caleb Daniels leads Tulane with 15.3 points per game, with redshirt junior forward Samir Sehic averaging 11.2 ppg and a team-best 7.8 rebounds per game.
> Tulane has used eight different starting lineups in its first 20 games this season, with a unique starting five in four of their last six contests. Sehic is the only Tulane player to start every game.
Series History vs. Tulane
> Temple and Tulane are meeting for the 13th time, with the Owls holding a 9-3 lead in the all-time series.
> The teams split meetings during the regular season last year, with Tulane winning 85-75 in Philadelphia on Dec. 28, but the Owls winning 83-76 in New Orleans on Feb. 4. Just over a month later, Temple beat Tulane 82-77 in the AAC Championships First Round in Orlando.
> Temple had won six straight in the series until the Green Wave's win last year. It was the first win for Tulane against Temple since the teams have both been members of the American Athletic Conference.Â
> Prior to the first AAC meeting in 2014-15, the teams had not faced each other since 1996.
