Men's Basketball Drops Heartbreaker to Cincinnati

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple men's basketball team dropped its second straight game Wednesday night, falling 89-82 to Cincinnati. With the loss, the Owls fall to 10-8 (2-5 AAC) while the Bearcats improve to 12-7 (5-2 AAC).

Game Summary
> Senior Quinton Rose scored a season-high 26 points, leading both teams, and tied his career-high with three blocks.
> Nate Pierre-Louis scored a career-high 22 points, marking the first time this season two Owls scored more than 20 points in a game.
> The game stayed close throughout, with the largest lead (10) coming from the Bearcats in the first half.
> Temple was hot from the field, shooting 53 percent and 64 percent from long range.
> Jarron Cumberland led the Bearcats, scoring 22 and recording six assists.

First Half
> The Bearcats opened the game with seven straight points.
> Temple would fight back, going on an 11-2 run over a three-minute stretch, to cut the deficit to one, 24-23, with under nine minutes left in the half.  Moore drained two threes in the run with Rose adding the other five points.
> The Owls took a 33-31 lead on another trey from Moore with 3:12 left on the clock.
> The teams traded buckets, tying the game three times before the Bearcats regained the lead, taking a 41-40 lead at the half.
> Temple was hot from behind the arc, shooting nearly 86 percent.

Second Half
> Temple jumped out early, with a trey from Rose giving them a 51-47 lead.
> The Owls took their largest lead of game, 57-52, with under 12 minutes left on the clock.
> Cincinnati used a 15-6 run to push ahead, 71-67, capped by a Jaevin Cumberland three with just over six minutes to play.
> The Temple defense held the Bearcats scoreless for over three minutes, taking a brief 72-71 lead on a free throw by J.P. Moorman II.
> Jarron Cumberland scored the final four points of a 6-0 Cinci run to give the visitors the lead fo good, 77-72 with 1:08 to play.
> Cumberland, the reigning AAC Player of the Year, made 10 of 10 free throws in the final minute to close out the game.

> The Owls will hit the road for a two-game stretch, facing Big 5 rival Penn at the Palestra Saturday afternoon. Tip off is set for 2 p.m. on NBC Sports Philadelphia.
