Men’s Basketball Travels to Penn Saturday for Big 5 Battle

PHILADELPHIA – Temple will look to keeps its hopes of a Philadelphia Big 5 title alive Saturday (2 pm/NBC Sports Philadelphia) when the Owls take a four-mile road trip to The Palestra for a city-series showdown with the Penn Quakers. Both programs are looking to snap out of rough starts to the new decade as Temple (10-8/2-5 AAC/2-0 Big 5) has dropped two straight and five of its six January contests while Penn (7-7/0-2 Ivy/1-2 Big 5) is winless in 2020.
SCOUTING TEMPLE
> Temple, under the direction of first-year head coach Aaron McKie, sports a balanced attack with two players averaging double figures and another five averaging 5.0 points or more.
> Senior guard Quinton Rose, who scored a season-high 26 points, leads the Cherry and White (t-4th in the AAC) in scoring (15.1 ppg), assists (3.7 apg/8th AAC), free throw percentage (.798/9th AAC) and steals (2.0 spg/3rd in AAC).
> Coming off a career-high 22-point night vs. Cincinnati, junior guard Nate Pierre-Louis leads Temple in rebounding (8.5 rpg/5th AAC), while ranking second in scoring (11.2 ppg), assists (2.9 apg) and steals (1.9/t-4th AAC).
> Senior Alani Moore II (8.2 ppg) has doubled his offensive output from last year (8.6 ppg) and is third in the AAC in threes per game (2.2) and eighth in three-point percentage (40-100, .400).
> Rounding out the starting five are sophomore Jake Forrester (8.6 ppg/4.2 rpg) and junior J.P. Moorman II (5.5 ppg), who ranks second on the team in rebounding (5.3 rpg).
> Junior De'Vondre Perry (6.7 ppg), who ranks third in the AAC in three-point percentage (.435), redshirt junior Monty Scott (5.1 ppg) and freshman Josh Pierre-Louis (4.4 ppg) have provided the most impact from the Owls' deep bench. Perry missed the Cincinnati game due to a toe injury. His status is day-to-day.

> Head coach Steve Donahue's Penn team sports four double figure scorers led by senior forward A.J. Brodeur (17.1 ppg/8.8 rpg/5.1 apg), who was recently named to the CollegeInsider.com Mid-major All-Decade Team. In the team's loss to SJU, Brodeur became the first player in Ivy League history to reach all of the following milestones: 1,500 points (1,604), 750 rebounds (811), 300 assists (312), 150 blocks (170), and 100 steals (101).
> Freshman guard Jordan Dingle, the nephew of former Owl star Daniel Dingle (2012-17), averages 14.7 points per game with senior guard Ryan Betley and senior guard Devon Goodman each scoring at a 13.3 clip.
> Penn lives by the three-point shot, averaging 9.4 treys per game, but shoots only 32.9 percent from behind the arc.
> The Quakers were picked to finish second in the Ivy League behind 2019 champion Harvard.
