Shooting Woes Plague Men's Basketball in Loss at Saint Joseph's

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple men's basketball team snapped a five-game winning streak and dropped its first Big 5 matchup of the year with a 68-49 loss at Saint Joseph's Saturday afternoon. Shooting woes plagued Temple at Hagan Arena, shooting 31.3 percent and draining just two three-pointers.
Recapping the Game
First Half
> Temple struck first, with Jake Forrester drawing a foul on the layup but missing the attempt from the free throw line.
> The Hawks countered with a bucket of their own, before taking a 6-4 lead on a layup from Ejike Obinna early in the game
> SJU's offense exploded with its first run of the day to put the score at 19-6 with 14:05 left in the half.
> Jeremiah Williams hit back-to-back baskets to break Temple's scoring drought, but the Owls couldn't find a run of their own and the Hawks would go up 24-10 before a Nick Jourdain hook shot.
> The Cherry and White continued to chip away at the lead, but SJU would take its largest lead of the day, 35-16, with 3:11 left in the half.
> The Owls found a spark in the final minutes of the first half, scoring seven of the last nine points to go into halftime down by 15 (37-22).
Second Half
> The Owls picked up where they left off at the break, extending their run to get within 11 (37-26).
> Obinna scored back-to-back dunks to run up the run and put the Hawks up 15, 41-26, with just over 16 minutes left on the clock.
> A Jourdain free throw cut the deficit to 10 (43-33) before a Damian Dunn layup at 10:49 put Temple within nine for the first time since the first half.
> The Hawks retook a double-digit lead on a pair of free throws a minute later and never looked back, going up by 24 (68-44) with under four minutes to play.
> Temple scored the final five points on a layup from Williams and trey from Jourdain, but SJU came away with a 68-49 win.
