Thomas, Cummins Score in Shootout Loss

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple field hockey team fell 3-2 Saturday afternoon in a shootout heartbreaker to Providence College. With the loss, the Owls fall to 4-7 (1-6 BIG EAST) while the Friars improve to 1-4 (1-4 BIG EAST). Junior Claire Thomas scored her first of the season and freshman Kaitlyn Cummins scored her first career goal.Â
Recapping the Game
> Temple went up 2-0 quickly, with Thomas finding the back of the cage on an empty net and Cummins scoring off a penalty corner.Â
> The Owls held their lead through the first three quarters, allowing just one shot and conceding no penalty corners in the first 45 minutes of play.
> Providence cut the Cherry and White lead to one to open the fourth quarter, evening the game at the 57-minute mark.
> Neither team could find the go-ahead goal in regulation, forcing an overtime situation and eventual shootout.Â
