Women's Basketball Looks For Season Sweep Against Cincinnati on Wednesday

PHILADELPHIA - The Cherry & White enter Wednesday night's matchup against the Cincinnati Bearcats having won three of its past four contests. The game is scheduled to take place on Jan. 26 at 7:00pm at McGonigle Hall. The contest is set to air on ESPN+.
Patrons will need to show their COVID vaccination card (either physical card or picture on their phone) or proof of a negative test within 24 hours of entry to attend the game at McGonigle. Wednesday's game will be Employee Appreciation Night, and one lucky fan will get the opportunity to shoot baskets to win $10,000.
LAST GAME
> The Temple women's basketball team dropped a tightly-contested overtime contest to the South Florida Bulls on Saturday evening. Trailing by two points with 26 seconds remaining in regulation, forward Mia Davis converted on a layup to send the game in overtime.Â
> However, despite the 44 combined points from Davis and Alexa Williamson, the Owls failed to capitalize in the overtime period, as a 10-3 run virtually sealed the game for the Bulls.
> Davis: game-high 26 points and six rebounds.
> Williamson: 18 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
> Aniya Gourdine: 12 points, 10 assists, and eight rebounds on a season-high 44 minutes.
THE OWLS
> After dropping its last game against South Florida in overtime, 75-67, Temple enters Wednesday's game fourth in the American Athletic Conference standings.
> Davis leads the conference in points per game, minutes per game, and field goal percentage this season. Davis has been playing some of her best basketball of the season in conference play, averaging 21.5 points per game.
> Williamson is averaging 15.5 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game in conference play.
> Gourdine comes into Wednesday's game as the AAC freshman of the week for the third time this season. Last game, Gourdine nearly recorded a triple-double, scoring 12 points, dishing out 10 assists and grabbing eight rebounds.
SCOUTING CINCINNATI
> The Bearcats improved to 9-9 overall and 2-4 in American Athletic Conference play following back-to-back wins last week.
> Junior point guard Akira Levy's three-pointer with 11 seconds left in the game vaulted the Bearcats to a 61-57 win over UCF in their last game.
> Caitlyn Wilson earned a spot on the AAC Weekly Honor Roll on Jan. 24 after shooting .409 and going 9-for-22 from the three point line during the 2-0 week for the Bearcats.
LAST TIME THEY MET
> Davis and Williamson both scored 20-plus points for the Owls as the Temple women's basketball team opened up conference play with a win over Cincinnati on Jan. 8, 2022.
> The Owls raced out to a 19-4 lead in the first quarter and never looked back from there, maintaining the lead for the rest of the contest.
> Davis: game-high 23 points and seven rebounds
> Williamson: 20 points in 21 minutes and eight rebounds
