Men's Basketball Meets Former Conference Rival Richmond Tuesday

BROOKLYN - Temple meets a former conference rival in Richmond Tuesday evening in the consolation of the Empire Classic Tuesday evening (7 pm/ESPN2/1210 AM WPHT).
The Owls (2-3) and Spiders (2-3) were both members of the Atlantic 10 Conference from 2001-02 through 2012-13, but the two have not met since Temple's final season in the A10. The Owls won that meeting , 71-64, and the Liacouras Center and own a slim 11-9 advantage in the series. Â
SCOUTING TEMPLE
> Temple will look to successfully bouce back from a setback for the third time this season with its third place game against Richmond in the Empire Classic. Â
> Preseason First Team All-American Athletic Conference selection Damian Dunn leasd the American Athletic Conference in scoring (21.4 ppg). He has led Temple in scoring in three of the team's five games and tallied a career-high 38 points in the Owls' 89-87 overtime loss to Vanderbilt, the most points by a Temple player since 2004.
> Dunn, who is shooting a blistering 50.8 percent from the field, 46.2 percent from three and 94.5 percent from the line, making 35-of-37 overall. He leads the nation in free throws made per game (35, 7.0 pg.) and attempted (37, 7.4 pg.)
> Three other Owls average double figure scorers: preseason second team All-AAC Khalif Battle (16.0 ppg), Jamille Reynolds (14.8 ppg., 7.7 rpg.) and Zach Hicks (10.2 ppg). Battle scored a season-high 24 points in the Rutgers game to garner MVP honors of the Basketball Hall of Fame Showcase.
> Hysier Miller posted his first career double-double (12 pts, 10 assists) against Rutgers, leads the team and tied for fourth in the AAC in assists per game (5.0 apg.)
> Hicks, the Owls top three-point shooter last season, broke out of a two-game slump to six-of-13 from distance against Vanderbilt for a season high 20 points. He is 13-of-26 from long range (50%) over the last three games.Â

> Richmond is looking to snap a three-game losing streak, including an overtime loss to Syracuse in its opening game of the Empire Classic.
> The Spiders also lost at home to AAC foe Wichita State, 56-53, on Nov. 17.
> 6-7 senior forward Tyler Burton leads the Spiders in scoring (17.8 ppg) and rebounding (9.8 rpg.). The preseason All-A10 first team selection scored 38 points at Charleston.
> Redshirt freshman Jason Nelson (13.0 ppg) runs the Spider attack and leads the team with 4.4 assists per game.
> Isaiah Burton, a 6-7 forward, also averages double figures at 11.8 ppg, while also pulling down 6.4 rpg.

> As a team the Owls connected on 48.1 percent overall, and blistered the nets to start the game by hitting 55.6 percent in the opening stanza.
> Despite owning a 38-30 lead at intermission, the Owls had trouble putting away the pesky Spiders.  Richmond went on an 11-2 run to cut the deficit to one, 42-41, and then took a lead three minutes later (47-45) on a Kendall Anthony trey (10 pts).
> The lead would change hands six times over the final 14 minutes, and it was not until Wyatt's late three broke a 61-all tie and ignited a 7-0 run that the Owls were able to put the game away.
