Volleyball Swept By ECU on Saturday

First time this season the Owls have gone winless in back-to-back matches
PHILADELPHIA – For the second time in 12 hours, the Temple volleyball team dropped a match to East Carolina. On Saturday, the Owls dropped to 12-7 overall and 3-5 in American Athletic Conference play with a 22-25, 10-25, 19-25 loss to the Pirates in McGonigle Hall.
In the sweep of the Owls, ECU improved to 16-4 overall and 3-5 in AAC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pirates served eight service aces in the victory compared to the two by the Owls.
- ECU's Brittany Wood led all players in the match with 12 kills, helping her squad to a .269 hitting percentage over the three sets.
- Four of the five Pirates that recorded blocks on the day, recorded three or more. East Carolina was led by Farah Farooq and Carlia Northcross with a match-high five blocks.
Set 1 (TU 22, ECU 25)
- Temple jumped out to an early lead (5-4) with senior Taylor Davenport adding a kill and a service ace, and senior Chudear Tut adding her first kill.
- Just as the Owls jumped out to the early lead, ECU was able to tie the score (5-5), eventually taking its first lead of the set (6-5). Over the next nine points, four ties went up on the scoreboard, but East Carolina would not allow the Owls to regain their early momentum of the first set.
- Late in the set with Temple and ECU locked at 20-20, the Pirates ran off three consecutive points with the help of consecutive kills by Angeles Alderete.
Set 2 (TU 10, ECU 25)
- The Pirates led wire-to-wire, dominating the second set.
- Libero Lara Uyar broke East Carolina's lead open with her serve. During that run the Pirates won six straight points, assisted by Wood's three kills during that span.
- Over the final seven points, ECU's Julianna Askew put the Owls away, assisting in three kills, serving two aces, and putting away her only kill on set point.
Set 3 (TU 19, ECU 25)
- Just like set two, the Owls got out to an early lead, going up by as many as five points (8-3). During the early success, Temple got back-to-back block assists from Chelci Banks and Taylor Davenport.
- The Pirates began chipping away at the Owls, going went on a 3-0 run, while forcing back-to-back Temple attack errors.
- Later in the set, East Carolina went on an 8-1 run, forcing five Owls' attack errors. Carla Northcross led the way with a pair of blocks during that span.
- ECU's Francesca McBride connected on her only service ace of the set and the Pirates' fourth of the set on match point.
