Field Hockey to Close Out Regular Season

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple field hockey team will close out its regular season slate with a pair of games this weekend, heading to Hamden, Conn. to face Quinnipiac for the conference finale on Oct. 27 before hosting Lafayette on Oct. 29 for senior day.

Scouting Temple
> The Owls are have won their last two BIG EAST games, topping Georgetown 2-1 and shutting out Villanova 4-0.
> Temple currently sits in a three-way tie in the conference standings (with Providence and Villanvoa) is still eligible for the BIG EAST Tournament. A win over Quinnipiac would clinch an Owls' postseason berth, with the outcome of the Villanova/Providence win to determine the third and fourth seeds. A loss doesn't end the season for the Owls, but Temple would need both a Providence win and a UConn win to keep the season alive.
> The Cherry and White has turned around its offensive struggles after being shoutout in four straight games to average 2.25 goals per game in its last four matchups.
> Tess Muller leads the team with five goals, three being game-winners, with Alizé Maes ranking second on the team with three of goals on the season. Maes leads the team with six assists, while Caitlyn Amsden has posted five.
> Molly Frey has been a force in goal, recording 51 saves and allowing 21 goals for a 0.708 save percentage. Entering the weekend, her 1.30 GAA ranks 23rd in the NCAA and third in the league.

Scouting Quinnipiac
> Quinnipiac is 6-9 (2-4 BIG EAST) and has lost its last two matchups.
> The Bobcats are 2-3 in their last five games, falling twice in overtime.
> Stella Tegtmeier leads the teams offensive effort, ranking first in goals (6), assists (5), points (17), shots (35), and shots on goal (22).
> Cristina Torres has been fantastic in goal, seeing all 907 minutes and recording 88 saves to rank 16th in the NCAA in saves per game (5.87). 

Series History
> This will be the seventh meeting between the teams, with the series split at 3-3.
> The teams first met in 2016 when the Bobcats joined the BIG EAST from the MAAC.
> Four of the matchups have been decided by just one goal, with the two games going into extra minutes.
> The Owls are on a two-game streak, topping the Bobcats 3-2 in a shootout on the road in 2021 and mounting a comeback win in 2022. Temple went down 3-0 at the half last season but came out of the break on fire, tying the game less than seven minutes into the third quarter. The Cherry and White would go on to win the game 6-3 in its league opener.

Scouting Lafayette
> Lafayette is 10-5 (4-1 Patriot League) and is on a seven-game hot streak, opening the weekend at Lehigh for the conference finale.
> The team last loss 3-1 on Sept. 24 at American. Five of the team's last seven wins have been shutouts, with the Leopards only allowing two goals in those seven games.
> Lafayette has outscored its opponents 35-19, with Lineke Spaans' 10 goals leading the team. Spaans' 0.67 goals per game ranks 29th in the NCAA and her 0.53 assists per game ranks 20th.
> Raffi Fragomeni has seen the majority of the team's goal, posting 31 saves and allowing 15 goals for 1.48 GAA that ranks 27th in the nation.

> The teams have met 37 times, with the Owls holding a 23-12-2 advantage.
> The Owls snapped a two-game winning streak last season, defeating the Leopards 1-0 on the road in the season opener.
> The last four matchups have been decided by just one goal, and the teams have split those four matches 2-2. Lafayette is 3-2 in the last five.
