Last Time Out - Owls Return to Win Column vs. Bloomsburg
Six players scored in double figures as the Temple University men's basketball team toppled the Bloomsburg Huskies, 85-55 on Wednesday night.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Jordan Riley led the Owls in scoring with 16 points. He contributed eight rebounds and a career-high three blocks.
  • Steve Settle III filled up the stat sheet with 10 points, a career-high tying five steals, six rebounds and five assists.
  • Zion Stanford was in double figures for the fourth consecutive game with 14, shooting 6-for-9 from the floor.
  • Shane Dezonie tallied a career-high 13. Matteo Picarelli scored 11 and Sam Hofman added 10 points and eight rebounds.
  • Hysier Miller tied a personal best with seven rebounds and had a season-high seven assists.
  • Eight different players scored for Temple in the contest. TU shared the ball well with a season-high 17 dimes.

Half A Dozen
Wednesday against Bloomsburg was the second time this season the Owls placed six players in double figure scoring. TU also accomplished the feat against La Salle. They are the first such games since February 7, 2018 when Quinton Rose (23), Josh Brown (17), Shizz Alston, Jr. (14), J.P. Moorman II (11), Ernest Aflakpui (10) and Nate Pierre-Louis (10) all tallied 10 or more in a 90-73 win against East Carolina.

Weekly Honors
Temple had two players recognized this week by the American Athletic Conference as Zion Stanford was the Freshman of the Week and Jordan Riley was on the AAC honor roll. Stanford was also named to the Big 5 Honor Roll. Stanford averaged 17.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game, shooting 61.9 percent from the floor. Riley posted 18.0 points with 6.0 boards a contest, adding in six assists, four steals and three blocks on the week.

I Love The Nightlife
Temple has played well in night games this season, going 5-1 so far when tipoff is after 5:00 p.m. The Owls are 0-2 in day games.

Scouting Report
UAlbany is 6-3 overall and is coming off a 98-59 victory against Division III SUNY Potsdam on Tuesday. After dropping three of their first four games, the Great Danes have won five in a row.

Leading the offense for UAlbany is Sebastian Thomas at 16.7 points per game. He has done a large portion of his work at the free throw line, averaging 4.1 an outing at the stripe. Close behind is Amar'e Johnson, tallying 16.1 a contest. Jonathan Beagle at 11.8 points per game. Beagle leads the team in rebounding at 8.6 boards a contest and Thomas tops the team with 39 assists.

One thing the Great Danes have done well is hold opponents down from beyond the arc, ranking in the top-50 nationally in three point percentage defense at 28.2 percent. As a team, they have also gone to the line quite a bit, averaging 22.1 attempts per game.

On the flip side, UAlbany has struggled in making the opposition to give up the ball, ranking above 200 in turnovers forced. Another struggle for the Great Danes is playing away from home. They are 4-0 at the Broadview Center, but 2-3 on the road. Sunday is their first neutral site contest of the year.

Dwayne Killings is in his third season as the head coach at UAlbany with a record of 27-44. It is his first lead mentor position after previously working as an associate head coach or assistant at Marquette, UConn, Temple and Boston University.

A First Time For Everything...
Sunday is the first ever meeting between the schools in men's basketball.

...But Not Completely Unfamiliar
Even though the Owls and Great Danes have never played before, one player on Temple has seen his share of the foes from New York's Capital Region. Matteo Picarelli has appeared in four games with one start in his career against UAlbany while playing for UMBC. He averaged 8.3 points per game against the Great Danes and scored a career-high 24 against them on February 15, 2023, connecting on five three-pointers.

They Know Us A Bit Too
UAlbany head coach Dwayne Killings is familiar with the history of the Temple program, working as the assistant director of basketball operations from 2006-09 and as an assistant coach with the Owls from 2011-16.

Putting In Extra Work
By going to triple overtime, the game against La Salle on November 29 entered some rare territory. It was the first 3OT game for the Owls since an 83-82 win at Massachusetts on February 11, 1990. The game was also just the fifth triple overtime game in Big 5 history and the first since La Salle downed Villanova, 84-83 on December 20, 1980.

Off To A Good Start
Zion Stanford has made an immediate impact on the Owls, particularly in recent games. Against Ole Miss, La Salle and Saint Joseph's he has tied or recorded a career-high in scoring in each subsequent game and has averaged 15.5 points per game in the last four contests. He has shined in late game situations, averaging 8.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and shot 12-for-18 (66.7 percent) while only committing one turnover in 59 minutes after halftime in those matchups.

Rise Of Riley
Stanford isn't the only one who has played above his numbers recently as Jordan Riley has averaged 15.5 points and 6.8 rebounds in the same four-game stretch. He has also saved his best for last, scoring 10.5 points after halftime, connecting on 13-of-14 shots from the line as well.

Holiday Travel
Temple will not play at the Liacouras Center again until January 7, a span of 32 days, when it faces Wichita State in a nationally televised matchup. In that time, the Owls will play six games. making trips to New York for the NABC Brooklyn Showcase, Richmond, Va., Hawai'i and Tampa, Fla. to start conference play.

Up Next
The Owls are off until December 16 when they travel to Richmond, Va. to take on the Virginia Commonwealth Rams. Tipoff from the Siegel Center is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
