Field Hockey to Continue Homestand Against Yale, No. 6 Virginia

PHILADELPHIA - After its third straight 2-0 opening weekend, the Temple field hockey team will continue its homestand against Yale and No. 6 Virginia.

Scouting Temple
> The Owls topped La Salle Friday night in the team's home opener, the first of a five-game homestand. This is the first time since 2003 that the Owls have played their first five games on North Broad.
> Temple capped opening weekend with a 2-1 victory over Bucknell on Sunday afternoon.
> Tess Muller was named to the Offensive Player of the Week after posting both game-winners opening weekend, while Molly Frey was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
> Frey was clutch in goal, posting 12 saves on the weekend including a penalty stroke stop against La Salle and a career-high with eight saves against Bucknell.
> The matchup against the Cavs will mark the first time since the 2020-21 season that the Owls have faced a top-10 team, falling to No. 6 Liberty in a pair of games on the road. The last time the Owls defeated a top-10 team was in 2014, when Temple topped No. 10 UMass at the 2014 Conference Cup at the Nook.

> Yale will open its 2023 campaign in Philly, facing the Owls on Friday and No. 11 Saint Joseph's on Sunday.
> The Bulldogs went 9-8 (4-3 Ivy) last season under first year head coach Melissa Gonzalez.
> Yale was outscored 32-24, with Théodora Dillman and Lily Ramsey each posting a team-leading six goals.
> Senior Luanna Summer will look to return in goal, recording all of the team's 70 saves for a 1.78 GAA.

Series History
> This will be the third meeting between the teams, with the Owls taking both matchups.
> This will be the first time in 30 years that the teams will meet, as both matchups were played in the early '80s.
> Temple did not allowed a Yale goal in either game.

> No. 6 Virginia is 1-1 on the season, topping No. 5 Penn State 2-1 in its season opener before falling 3-1 to No. 14 Liberty on Tuesday.
> UVA will open the weekend at No. 11 Saint Joseph's on Friday.
> Three Cavs have recorded a goal entering the weekend, with Laura Janssen, Minnie Pollock, and Daniela Mendez-Trendler each finding the back fo the cage.
> The team has outshot its opponents 31-23, putting 17 on target, but has been outcornered 14-7.
> In goal, Tyler Kennedy has recorded eight of the team's 11 saves. 

Welcome Back Michele Madison
> Former Temple field hockey head coach will return to North Broad for the fifth time as opposing head coach and the second time as Virginia head coach.
> Madison compiled a 56-28-6 as the Owls' head coach 1989-92, taking the team to one A10 Championship, three A10 finals appearances, and three NCAA appearances.
> Following her tenure in Cherry and White, Madison was the head coach at Michigan State from 1993-2005 before landing with the Cavs in 2006.
> Madison is 3-2 against Temple, with two of the three wins coming at Virginia.
> Madison coached Temple coaches Michelle Vittese (2008-12) and Carissa Vittese (2010-13) during their collegiate careers.
